Re: RSS feeds for English Learners by Mark Stevens - Wednesday, 12 October 2005, 07:43 PM Tim,
As usual, you have a great list. (I have added them to the Links Glossary )
Here are some that I use:
Yahoo word of the day http://xml.education.yahoo.com/rss/wotd/
Brainy Dictionary Daily Word http://rss./link/wordoftheday.rss
Wordsmith A.Word.A.Day http://www./awad/rss1.xml http://www./awad/rss2.xml
Other feeds: ESLMonkeys have a bunch of RSS feeds at: http://www./free_content_esl/free_content_esl_webmaster.php
I recently started using RSS feeds in a Business English class where I asked the students to pick one article a week from the RSS feeds and write a summary or discuss the article. I used these sites:
Business Week http://www./rss/bwdaily.rss CBS Business News http://www./feeds/rss/business.rss CNN Money http://rss./rss/money_latest.rss Time: Business http://rss./web/time/rss/business/index.xml BBC News http://news./rss/newsonline_world_edition/front_page/rss.xml Audiobooks on iTunes http://ax.phobos.apple.com./WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wpa/MRSS/topsongs/sf=143441/genre=0000018/explicit=false/limit=10/rss.xml Apple dot Slashdot http://apple./apple.rss IBM News http://www.ibm.com/news/us/en/index.rss Time News http://rss./web/time/rss/top/index.xml CISCO http://newsroom./data/syndication/rss1/newsReleases_20.xml
[Apple Computer related RSS] Apple Hot News http://www.apple.com/main/rss/hotnews/hotnews.rss Apple dot Slashdot http://apple./apple.rss AppleInsider http://www./appleinsider.rss MacSlash http:///rss/macslash.xml
BBC has a large collection of RSS feeds for various languages.

Re: RSS feeds for English Learners by Mark Stevens - Sunday, 16 October 2005, 03:27 AM If you have Moodle 1.5 or higher, it‘s a block. To activate it,
1. click: turn editing on 2. In the blocks menu, click "Add..." 3. Select: Remote RSS Feeds 4. Click on the edit button for the Remote RSS Feeds block and add your sites.
More help, as Tim mentioned above, is here: http:///mod/forum/discuss.php?d=32372#150600
If you have Moodle 1.4+ your Moodle administrator needs to upgrade to 1.5.2+ or add the block manually.
