Renesas Technology is expanding its product applications in the automotive electronics market, and it is also eyeing the netbook market, according to the company.

It is working with a carmaker for mass production of automotive applications, according to the company. Tetsuya Morimoto, chairman of Renesas Taiwan, is optimistic about the future of the automotive electronics market, targeting demand from emerging countries.

System solutions account for 40% of Renesas' total sales, microcontrollers (MCUs) account for 35%, and the rest are general purpose products and memories. Mobile communication, automotive electronics and computer multimedia are the company's major application areas.

Renesas Taiwan is going to enter the netbook market by supplying solutions for the US$500 netbook segment. Morimoto indicated netbooks are driving the demand for embedded controllers with high price-to-performance ratio.

Haruji Ishihara, chief technical officer at Renesas Taiwan, indicated the company is also working on energy saving product development.
