nivThe proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:

nasbThe proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:

2要使人曉得智慧和訓誨,分辨通達的言語;

nivfor attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight;

nasbTo know wisdom and instruction, To discern the sayings of understanding,

3使人處事,領受智慧、2仁義、公平、正直的訓誨;

nivfor acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair;

nasbTo receive instruction in wise behavior, Righteousness, justice and equity;

4使愚人3靈明;使少年人有知識和謀略;

nivfor giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young-

nasbTo give prudence to the naive, To the youth knowledge and discretion,

5使智慧人聽見,增長學4問;使聰明人得著智謀;

nivlet the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance-

nasbA wise man will hear and increase in learning, And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel,

nivfor understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.

nasbTo understand a proverb and a figure, The words of the wise and their riddles.

nivThe fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

nasbThe fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.

nivListen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching.

nasbHear, my son, your father's instruction And do not forsake your mother's teaching;

nivThey will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.

nasbIndeed, they are a graceful wreath to your head And ornaments about your neck.

nivMy son, if sinners entice you, do not give in to them.

nasbMy son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent.

nivIf they say, 'Come along with us; let's lie in wait for someone's blood, let's waylay some harmless soul;

nasbIf they say, "Come with us, Let us lie in wait for blood, Let us ambush the innocent without cause;

nivlet's swallow them alive, like the grave, and whole, like those who go down to the pit;

nasbLet us swallow them alive like Sheol, Even whole, as those who go down to the pit;

nivwe will get all sorts of valuable things and fill our houses with plunder;

nasbWe will find all kinds of precious wealth, We will fill our houses with spoil;

nivthrow in your lot with us, and we will share a common purse'-

nasbThrow in your lot with us, We shall all have one purse,"

15我兒,不要與他們同12行一道,禁止你13腳走他們的路;

nivmy son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths;

nasbMy son, do not walk in the way with them. Keep your feet from their path,

nivfor their feet rush into sin, they are swift to shed blood.

nasbFor their feet run to evil And they hasten to shed blood.

nivHow useless to spread a net in full view of all the birds!

nasbIndeed, it is useless to spread the baited net In the sight of any bird;

nivThese men lie in wait for their own blood; they waylay only themselves!

nasbBut they lie in wait for their own blood; They ambush their own lives.

nivSuch is the end of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the lives of those who get it.

nasbSo are the ways of everyone who gains by violence; It takes away the life of its possessors.

20智慧在街市上呼16喊,在寬闊處發聲;

nivWisdom calls aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the public squares;

nasbWisdom shouts in the street, She lifts her voice in the square;

nivat the head of the noisy streets she cries out, in the gateways of the city she makes her speech:

nasbAt the head of the noisy streets she cries out; At the entrance of the gates in the city she utters her sayings:

22:你們愚昧人喜愛愚昧,褻慢人喜歡褻慢,愚頑人恨惡知識,要到幾時呢?

niv'How long will you simple ones love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge?

nasb"How long, O naive ones, will you love being simple-minded? And scoffers delight themselves in scoffing And fools hate knowledge?

nivIf you had responded to my rebuke, I would have poured out my heart to you and made my thoughts known to you.

nasb"Turn to my reproof, Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.

24我呼18喚,你們不肯19聽從;我伸手,無人理會;

nivBut since you rejected me when I called and no one gave heed when I stretched out my hand,

nasb"Because I called and you refused, I stretched out my hand and no one paid attention;

nivsince you ignored all my advice and would not accept my rebuke,

nasbAnd you neglected all my counsel And did not want my reproof;

nivI in turn will laugh at your disaster; I will mock when calamity overtakes you-

nasbI will also laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your dread comes,

nivwhen calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you.

nasbWhen your dread comes like a storm And your calamity comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.

28那時,你們必呼22求我,我卻不答應;懇切地尋找我,卻尋不見;

niv'Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me.

nasb"Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently but they will not find me,

nivSince they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the Lord ,

nasbBecause they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the LORD.

nivsince they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke,

nasb"They would not accept my counsel, They spurned all my reproof.

nivthey will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.

nasb"So they shall eat of the fruit of their own way And be satiated with their own devices.

nivFor the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them;

nasb"For the waywardness of the naive will kill them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them.

nivbut whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.'

nasb"But he who listens to me shall live securely And will be at ease from the dread of evil."
