1969年成立的由卡伦·卡彭特和哥哥理查德·卡彭特组成的Carpenters（木匠）兄妹乐队，在当时金属与迷幻、朋友与毒品泛滥的70年代，犹如一股纯净的清风吹抚着人们的心灵。其中卡伦·卡彭特的一曲《Yestoday Once More》（昨日再来）在中国更是成为一代青年成长岁月中的不朽金曲，传唱至今，仍经久不衰。 1979年，兄妹乐队发行了他俩的每12 张专辑以后，哥哥理查决定离开乐队，“木匠”乐队就此解散。就象所有有成就的艺术家一样，卡伦·卡彭特于当年5月开始录制以她名字命名的个人专辑。由于安排的冲突，1980年专辑没有发行，再加上其他一些原因，5月5日，卡伦决定搁置这张专辑。谁也没想到这张专辑竟成绝唱。
