Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung here on Friday worked with ministries and agencies continuing to implement urgent measures to ensure safety of Vietnamese workers in Libya.

Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs reported in the meeting that the total number of Vietnamese workers in Libya is 10,482 people.

According to Ngan's report, by Thursday, over 9,000 Vietnamese workers had been evacuated from Libya to Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Malta, Tunisia and Turkey and other 500 people are now at the border of Libya.

Of those 9,000 Vietnamese evacuated, about 5,500 were safely back to Vietnam, said Ngan.

Ngan said that 289 Vietnamese are now still being stuck in Libya in safe condition, of whom 125 are at the Tripoli airport.

Vietnam has called on international organizations to help Vietnamese workers in Libya. Vietnam Airlines set up an "air bridge" to help workers return home.

Dung asked ministries, sectors and agencies to directly cooperate with the Vietnam representative offices to bring workers safely out of Libya as soon as possible and work with the third countries to ensure safety and security for Vietnamese workers.

Dung assigned the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to provide one million Vietnamese dong (roughly 50 U.S. dollars) for each worker.
