Mary的漂亮，不因高齡而減少。
或
Mary is old, but she has not lost her beauty at all.
也可用副詞 nevertheless:
Mr. A has repeatedly failed, nevertheless, he tries harder.
A先生屢次失敗，然而，他更努力。
(9)to lie less in ...than in ...；to lie more in …than in …；to lie not in ...but rather in …；to lie not so much in …..as in.....都有「不在於....而在於.....」的意思。
例如：
The greatness of a nation lies less in its military strength than in the quality of its people.

(10)Cannot but…; to be obliged…; to be forced; cannot help都有「不得不」的意思。
例如:
As I want to know more about the American people, I cannot but learn English.
我為了理解美國人，不得不學英文。
( cannot but後面用不加to的不定詞learn)
或:
In order to know the American culture, I am obliged to learn the English language.
或
With a view to studying Western culture, I am forced to learn English.
(to be obliged和to be forced後面都用不定詞to learn)
Mr. A cannot help working hard so as to support his family.
A先生為了維持家庭，不得不努力工作。
(cannot help後面用動名詞working)
也可以說:
Mr. A has to work hard in order to support his family.
have (has) to = must
(11) at any rate; by all means; at all events; no matter how; anyhow都有「無論如何」、「不管怎樣」的意思。
例如:
At any rate, one should not be arrogant all the time.
無論如何，一個人都不該傲慢。
We should try, at all events, to help others in case of necessity.
無論如何，需要時，我們應該幫助他人。
By all means, I will write something clear and helpful for my readers.
不管怎樣，我要寫些對我讀者明白有用的東西。
No matter how successful you are, try to maintain a low profile.
不管你是多麼成功，也要保持低調。
Anyhow, politicians should sacrifice self interest for public welfare.
無論怎樣，為政者應該為大眾福利而犧牲自我。

(12)although(或though)…yet; in spite of ;despite; notwithstanding都有「雖然」、「即使」的意思。
例如:
Although he is a 10-year-old boy, (yet) he is more intelligent than many people.
雖然他只是十歲男孩，但比許多人更聰明。
(yet只是加強語氣，也可省去)
In spite of his wealth, he is not always happy.
即使他很富有，但並不快樂。
Despite all his efforts, Mr. B failed again and again.
雖然B先生盡力而為，但他還是一再失敗。
Notwithstanding all his efforts, he did not reach his goal.
儘管他盡了所有力量，他仍未達到目標。
(以上despite和notwithstanding都是介系詞，後接名詞efforts)
