Candlestick

This is a rare figural candlestick made by Meissen in about 1750. It is of a man and a child or putto eating grapes of the vines growing up the central column. Lots of detail and superb modelling on this piece and only the best was left white so this is something special for sure. This piece is in amazing condition considering the age and fragile nature of it. There is a branch chipped off the front right by the other branch about halfway up, five leaves are chipped, the putti has a firing crack in his head which is glazed over, he is missing his right big toe, the candleholder part on top had the leaves underneath broken off in three pieces and they were reglued which isn't too bad considering msot times these aren't even present anymore. The screw holding it on the base is a replacement. I think there is some old wax in the putto's hand - it's not restored just in case you were wondering from the pictures. None of this is obvious at all and this is a superb display piece. The bottom of the base is flat and obviously Meissen and in this case the air hole is in the back of the base an inch off the ground or so. There are remnants of the blue crossed swords on the back rim of the base but most of it was unglazed and is long gone. The stick is of a nice size being 11.375 inches tall, 4.5 inches wide and 4.25 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures. Price is $2499
