1.  I actually took the liberty of doing that for you here, it's pretty entertaining:
2. people should press for an ‘amendment’ to the 27th Amendment whereby lawmakers’ pay is also affected if there's a shutdown.

Then they would think twice about holding the American public hostage during periods of budget disagreement

3.
This is the most blatant example that we are in no democracy, but instead a mediocre media-runned pathetic-reality-show around checks and balance. This is really, yes YOU the Economist, the fact that you are promoting timid ignorance at large and are no more than stupid folks writing whatever your masters ask you to write. It is miserable and deceptive.

4. cow! those guys are so cute !!!  LOL

Sylvain, I am glad to see your comment because I know that you must now feel a lot better for having gotten those emotions off your chest -- believe me, venting on internet forums is an act with which I can totally identify. :-)

Nonetheless, I must confess that am left wondering... was there an actual coherent point buried somewhere in there that I simply missed?

5.discretionary spending

6.Incidentally, I am personally sticking around until I can shake myself from insomnia, but what are the *rest* of you all doing here so late? ;-)
NERDS!!!

7.Furthermore, there are plenty of strong disincentives (such as increasing interest payments) against having a high level of debt that make a legal cap redundant for preventing us from reaching arbitrarily high levels of debt

8.I'm also staving off insomnia, ironically by staying up all night Friday

The greatest disappointment is not the budget debate and potential impasse, rather it is the nature of its acrimonious discourse and lack of substance. The budget can indeed be cut further if politicians were bold enough to eliminate the waste that permeates our spending. Unfortunately, demonization from both sides focusing on the budget's "total value" obscures the realities of poor spending choices made by Congressional Representatives from both sides that benefit from the wasteful status quo - even when it is a little smaller.

Democrats. Get used to it because you and this clueless president are going to be eating a steady diet of it before you're finally sent packing in 2012.

11.The country continues to be bled white by two foreign wars

12.It is not even the beginning of the end

A cat looks down on you, a dog looks up to you but a pig will stand beside you and be your friend- Winston Churchill.

14.Borrowing massive amounts of money each year from Chinese and Arab dictators is not an acceptable alternative to be perpetuated.
