 关于if you will…

I don’t know if it will rain tomorrow. But if it will rain tomorrow, I’ll stay at home.

正:I don’t know if it will rain tomorrow. But if it rains tomorrow, I’ll stay at home.

真正的问题是,你没有真正弄清if you will…

首先,大家要明确if you will… 下面我们来归纳一下if you will…

A man who won't work is no good.

I will pay you at the rate you ask.

If you will allow me, I will see you home.

If you won’t come, I’ll go myself.

I’ll thank you if you will give me a hand.

I’ll pay for the hotel, if you will for the food.

If you won’t stop smoking, you can only expect to have a bad cough.

If he will only try harder, I’m sure he’d do well.

If you will agree to pay us compensation, we will agree not to take the matter any further.

If you will indulge me for one moment, I think I can explain the matter to you.

I’ll appreciate it if you will let me know in advance.

I’d be grateful if you will let me know soon.

If you will wait a moment, I’ll fetch the money.

If you will follow me, I’ll show you the way.

If you will wait a moment I’ll see if Mr Jones is free.

If you would come this way, I’ll take you to the manager’s office.

If you will sit down for a few moments, I’ll tell the manager you’re here.

I would be very grateful if you would make the arrangements for me.

She will keep interrupting people.

He will comb his hair at the table, even though he knows I don't like it.

He would do it, though I told him not to.

Regardless of warnings he would play with fire.

If you will go to bed so late, no wonder you’re tired.

If you will play the drums all night no wonder the neighbors complain.

If you will go out without your overcoat, what can you expect?

If you will get drunk every night, it’s not surprising you feel ill.

If you will keep your watch half an hour slow it is hardly surprising that you are late for your appointments.

If you would be interested, I should be very glad to send you a copy of my book.

If you would have come sooner, you could have helped us.

If I would have let him back me down in front of everybody, I would have lost respect.

All possible means __________ been tired.

Every possible means __________ been tired.

A. have,have     B. has,has      C. have,has      D. has,have

1. 如果means与all,such,these,those等词连用,则其含义应该是复数:

These means are very good.

Such means sound interesting, but in fact they’reimpossible.

2. 如果means与a,such a,this,that,every等词连用,则其含义应该是单数:

Such a means is really unpleasant.

There is an effective means of doing it.

Are there any other means of doing it?

正:Is there any other means of doing it?

There is no good means.

正:There are no good means.

是否有类似welcome sb to do sth结构的表达?

Chinglish:

Hu said the mainland welcomes more Taiwan people to do business.(摘自2006年1月26日的CHINA DAILY第一版Bejing’s “flexible approach appeals to Taiwan people”)

Hmm, well, we do welcome students to visit some of the wards at our hospitals, …

首先要澄清的是welcome sb to do sth既不是典型的Chinglish,也不是错误的表达方式,其次,美国英语不是不用welcome sb to do sth,而是大量使用welcome sb to do sth。

1. BUY CORPUS OF AMERICAN ENGLISH (1990-2009) (Mark Davies, Brigham Young University) http://www./:

1991I would welcome you to join me with your own meal,..

1992 …, and I would welcome you to do that.

1995 …, and if Fred wants to come by and look at every check and every dollar of income and every invoice, we’d welcome him to do so.

1996 If he requests it will you welcome him to visit here?

1998 And I want to welcome you to be in here.

1999I’d like to welcome you to join me, 7:00 p.m. Eastern,…

1999 I welcome him to help build the Reform Party an alternative to the Republicans and Democrats in this country.

2000 We’re welcomed to do it.

2003 We welcome you to share in the third annual Massachusetts Missing Children’s Day.

2004 Many Christians thoughtfully affirm Dammann’s gifts and fitness for ministry and would welcome her to be their pastor.

2005 We’ve been welcomed to stay as long as we want.

2008 And if you’re logged onto “Second Life”, we welcome you to go over to our Science Friday island and ask a question there via our SCIENCE FRIDAY “ Second Life ” avatar.

实际上,不仅美国英语中大量使用welcome sb to do sth,英国英语中也不乏welcome sb to do sth的例证:

BUY-BNC BRTISH NATIONAL CORPUS (UK,1980s-1993) (Mark Davies, Brigham Young University ) http://corpus./bnc/

I very much welcome the council group decision to demonstrate its confidence in Alex Salmond.

Mr Churchill said he would welcome a change in the law to steer the market in favour of coal.

Today, visitors are warmly welcomed to share Crete’s ancient history and to enjoy its breathtaking landscapes of 8000-foot mountains, deep valleys, extensive beaches, sparkling bays and lively resorts.

从以上可以看出:无论美国英语还是英国英语都在使用welcome sb to do sth,尽管词典中还没有收录welcome sb to do sth。
