I. How to learn English?

1. 本单元的话题是讨论如何学习英语

这个话题既有趣又实用,既能锻炼我们的语言能力,又能使我们学到一些实用的方法,对自身的学习大有帮助。如何向别人请教学习方法呢?又如何回答呢?本单元的目标句型

(1)  How do you study English?

     I study English by listening cassettes.

              by studying with a group.

              by watching English programs on TV.

              by enjoying English songs.

              by taking part in English classes after school.

              by getting an English tutor.

              by reading English magazines and newspapers.

              by surfing the Internet.

              by making flashcards.

              by reading the textbook.

              by asking the teacher for help.

              by making vocabulary lists.

              by taking notes carefully.

              by having the English class carefully.

              by finishing my homework seriously.

(2) Do you learn English by…?

      Yes, I do / No, I don’t.

    (3) Have you ever studied with a group?

Yes, I have. I’ve learned a lot that way.

    (4)What about listening to tapes?

I do that sometimes. I think it helps.

2.学会评价各种学习方法的优劣

并不是所有的学习方法都适合自己。我们要学会评价与判断,然后才能选择最适合自己的方法。

用下面的语言进行评价:

   I think studying English by… is … because…

e.g. I think studying English by working with a group is a good way because you can ask others when you have questions.

   I think surfing the Internet is a bad way because you have to use a computer and always waste your time.

    这个句型较长,是个复合句, 出现了由because引导的原因状语从句。进入初三后,我们在写作表达时,要避免使用没有主句的because从句,而要写完整的句子。另外,在这句话中,我们看到了以动名词studying English为主语的句子。

如:不能写Because I slept late. 这样句意不完整,不清晰。

要写成 I missed the early bus because I slept late.这样有原因,有结果的句子才是完整的句子。

 

3. 找出自己在英语学习中的困难 (Find out your own difficulties in learning English

   要选择适合自己的学习方法,还必须清楚自己的困难所在,然后才能有的放矢。我们如何表达自己学习上遇到的困难呢?如何给出建议呢?:在英语学习中表达自己学习上遇到的困难的句型:

  I have a problem. I can’t remember the new words.

  I can’t pronounce some of the words.

  I can’t understand spoken English.

  I always make mistakes in grammar.

  I read very slowly.

  I don’t know how to speak English well.

给出建议的句型:

   You should read English aloud.

   Listening can help you.

   Why don’t you join an English language club to practice speaking?

   Would you mind remembering new words by flashcards?

   Please try to talk with your friends in English as much as possible.

4.确定自己的学习方法(Decide your suitable learning ways

   通过以上各个环节的学习,我们终于可以完成最后的目标——选择适合自己的方法。如何表达呢?目标句型如下:(注意要给出原因,练习使用because)

I think I can study English by …because…

e.g. I think I can study English by listening to English songs because I love music too.

I don’t think I can get an English tutor because I want to learn by myself at home.

II. by 的用法

介词,表示通过…方法或途径的意思,译成“靠,通过”,后面可加名词名词短语

e.g. 1) The house was destroyed by fire. 房屋被火烧毁了。

2) travel by air /land/sea. 航空(陆路,航海)旅行

3) go by train /boat/ bus  乘火车(船,公共汽车)去

4) shake sb. by the hand 和某人握手

5) I study English by watching English movies. 我通过看英文电影学英语。

     另外,by作为介词的意义有很多,我们也已经学过一些用法,总结如下:

        1) 在…旁边,靠近 e.g. There is a power station by the river. 河边有一个电厂。

2) 沿着,经由 e.g. come by the highway  由公路来

3) 由于 e.g. by mistake 由于差错

4) 被,由 e.g. some articles written by Lu Xun.   一些由鲁迅写的文章

5) 表示面积 e.g. a room 5m by 4m  一间长五米宽四米的房间

6) 逐批 e.g. one by one  一个接一个

II. 疑难解释:

1. ask sb. about sth.  问某人某件事情 about后面加名词或动名词

 e.g. Ask students about the best way of learning 问学生们最好的学习方法。

ask sb to do sth  要求某人做某事,请某人做某事,to后面加动词原形

 e.g. He asked his mother to buy him a new bicycle.他请求母亲给他买一辆新自行车。

2. frustrating adj. 令人灰心的,令人沮丧的。(修饰物,事件)

     e.g. Watching movies to learn English is frustrating because the people speak too quickly.

        通过看电影来学英语是让人灰心的,因为剧中人物说话太快了。

   frustrated adj.灰心的,沮丧的 (修饰人)

     e.g. I felt frustrated at that time. 那时我觉得很沮丧。

类似的还有:

sth+be + interesting令人感兴趣的          sb+be + interested 感兴趣的

sth+be +  disappointing令人失望的        sb+be +  disappointed 失望的       

sth+be +  boring 无聊的                        sb+be +   bored 感到无聊的 

sth+be + exciting令人兴奋的              sb+be + excited 感到兴奋的

3. get excited 变得兴奋起来  get是系动词,get+ adj. 有“逐渐变得…”的含义

  e.g.  get mad 生气     get clear 变得清晰了

      The long journey got the children all tired.  长途旅行使得孩子们疲惫不堪。

4. end up doing sth. 终止做某事,结束做某事,后面加动名词短语,相当于 finish doing sth. 表示结束做某事,事情已完成

   e.g. When we practice speaking English, we often end up speaking in Chinese.

 但,要注意与stop doing sth. 的区别

stop doing sth.指停止做某事,有可能是暂时的,不久还会继续下去。

e.g. We had to stop singing because somebody knocked at the door.

 另外,end up with…  以…而告终,后面加名词或动名词

e.g. The party ended up with her singing. 晚会以她的歌唱而告终。

5. 在本单元中,出现了大量的动名词。我们有必要了解动名词的结构和用法。

  动名词即动词的-ing形式,相当于名词。在句子中可做主语,宾语,表语等。

 e.g. 1). I think that doing lots of listening practice  is one of the secrets of learning.

doing lots of listening practice 为动名词短语,做从句中的主语。谓语动词用单数

2) I am enjoying learning English. 动名词短语做宾语。

3) Seeing is believing. 眼见为实。(seeing做主语,believing做表语)

 6. 在文章中出现了许多表示顺序或承接的连词或词组。这些词使全文流畅生动,条理清晰。在写作中,正确使用连接词会使其增色,提高档次。

 如:first of all      首先

     to begin with   一开始

     later on        后来,随后

     also           也,而且(用于肯定句)

     either          也(用于否定句)

     so因此

     then 然后

V.语法知识:

现在完成时:
概念:过去发生或已经完成的动作对现在造成的影响或结果, 或从过去已经开始,持续到现在的动作或状态。
时间状语: since+从句(一般过去时)/ 1994/two years ago (过去的时间点,

For+   时间段ten weeks/months/years

in the past/last few years,   recently, lately, 等连用

时间副词 : just,already, ever ,never ,yet , …….before等连用
基本结构  :主语+have/has + V(过去分词)
否定形式:  主语+ have/has + not + V(过去分词)
一般疑问句:Have/Has +主语+ V(过去分词)?

VI.书面表达

    I like English . I know it is one of the most important subjects at school. Yes, I study English best, but do you know how hard I study it? It is a good way to learn English, because it can make me learn more words. And I think asking the teacher for help is the best way to study well, because the teacher knows much more than us. I think listening to tapes is as helpful as speaking, so I listen to tapes after dinner and speak English in and after class.
