How to Setup a KMS Server for Office 2010

This procedure explains how to setup a KMS Server for Office 2010 step by step.

1) Install a Windows Server 2008 KMS Server

Open an elevated cmd prompt type the following:

Slmgr.vbs /ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

where xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx is your Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 KMS Key



then activate the server type:
slmgr.vbs -ato



We can verify licenses are properly activated running one of the following commands:

  slmgr /dli or slmgr /dlv (detailed information)



2) Install a Office 2010 licenses on the KMS Server

Install Microsoft Office 2010 KMS Host License Pack



Enter the required KMS key for Office 2010





 We need to run one of the following commands to verify licenses are properly activated:

 slmgr /dli all or slmgr /dlv all (detailed information)




Optional: We can verify the DNS registration is working propertly using following command:

nslookup -type=srv _vlmcs._tcp
