BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- The non-performing loans (NPL) ratio at China's commercial banks stood at 0.9 percent at the end of June, unchanged from the end of the first quarter, the country's banking regulator said on Wednesday.

Non-performing loans hit 456.4 billion yuan (72.4 billion U.S. dollars) at the end of the second quarter, according to a statement on the website of the China Banking Regulatory Commission.

Commercial banks include large banks, joint-stock banks, city banks as well as rural commercial and foreign-funded banks.

Foreign-funded banks registered the lowest NPL ratio, at 0.6 percent; NPL ratios for large commercial banks and joint-stock commercial banks stood at 1 percent and 0.7 percent, respectively.

Commercial banks' capital adequacy ratio reached 12.9 percent at the end of June, up from 12.7 percent three months earlier. Their core capital adequacy ratio rose to 10.4 percent from 10.3 percent at the end of March, according to the statement.

China's total banking assets jumped 20 percent year on year to 126.78 trillion yuan at the end of the second quarter. Large commercial banks' assets hit 59.09 trillion yuan, up 14.4 percent from the previous year, accounting for 46.6 percent of the nation's total banking assets.
