BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong on Sunday called forenhanced international cooperation to promote the protection of cultural heritage.
Liu made the remarks while addressing a meeting of the Advisory Committee of theInternational Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) held Sunday in Beijing.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the ConventionConcerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
Under the convention, all countries should join hands to build effective internationalcooperation mechanisms for promoting the protection of cultural heritage.
Cultures in different countries should all be respected to protect the diversity of humancivilization, said Liu.
Liu urged to increase investment for cultural heritage protection and rationallycapitalize on the cultural heritages so as to realize the sustainability of heritageprotection.
The ICOMOS was founded in 1965 in Warsaw as the most influential global non-government organ working for the conservation of cultural heritage sites.
