Local governments and schools have been told to promote the health of students through physical education courses, according to a circular published by the State Council Monday.
The circular requires measures to ensure that elementary and high school students spend one hour each day participating in schoolyard sports. Time devoted to exercises courses and sports should not be reduced or diverted for study in other subjects.
The document also vowed more government investment.
