景观-国际花园节(蓬·利马)

In artistic and creative terms, the International Garden Festival of Ponte de Lima is on a par with some of the most important events in Portugal related to the avant-garde and to varied cultural interventions, given all that it has contributed on educational, environmental, social and cultural and other levels, spreading countless messages that, through the art of gardens, contribute to the elevation in terms of the citizenship of our local populations and of all those who visit the event.
All those connected with this Festival have been concerned with seeking themes that present a challenge, that make us consider the phenomena and complex questions that generate important debate in current society.
For this reason, the choice of this year’s theme was of the greatest relevance. “The Forest in the Garden”, in this International Year of Forests, revealed a great sense of opportunity and will undoubtedly reinforce our understanding of the problems and benefits that this important, but unfortunately often ignored, sector of our economy represents in terms of local, regional and Portuguese development.
The International Garden Festival is now duly established as a benchmark event – it must therefore be harnessed and used to raise awareness of a number of pressing issues of great significance among its visitors and above all among the many schoolchildren who visit the festival. That has always been and will always be its primary objective: to combine art with a series of ground-breaking messages and, at the same time, to inspire reflection that goes beyond the commonplace.
Awareness of the need to protect the environment and preserve our woodland heritage, together with creativity and art, are what we intend to achieve with this seventh festival.
Art to let us escape and to bring us closer to the world that surrounds us. Art which helps us to gain a better understanding of everyday questions and even to express others that had never crossed our mind. Art which is, above all, an exercise in citizenship.
In the words of Goethe, “There is no surer way of evading the world than by Art; and no surer way of uniting with it than by Art”.
