KUNMING, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- One driver was killed and another injured during a test run of a metro line Tuesday in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province.

A spokesman with the municipal government said that part of a test train on the metro line derailed, causing the vehicle's heating device to fall and hit the drivers in the driver cabin.

The city's first metro line scheduled for a trial operation in February was undergoing a non-loaded test run.

The government has set up an investigation team to probe the accident.

This was the third accident in two weeks relating to metro lines under construction in China.

On Dec. 31, five workers were killed and 18 others injured after a platform collapsed in a parking lot being built to support a metro line in Shanghai.

On Jan. 2, three workers were injured after a tunnel of a metro line under construction in the southern Chinese city of Nanning collapsed.

The accidents have triggered public concern about safety, as Chinese cities are rushing to build urban metro systems in an effort to ease severe road congestion.
