Celebrities who had worked in countryside

From 1960s to 1970s, millions of young Chinese went to work in the
countryside to receive re-education. Rural life had become a generation's
memory. Those people form a special social group in China. Today, some of them
have become well-known scholars, officials, and cultural
celebrities.
Mo Yan
Mo Yan, old name Guan Moye, was born on
February 17, 1955, in Gaomi, east China's Shandong province. Mo Yan had the
experiences of working in the field in countryside and in a factory. In 1976, he
joined the People's Liberation Army and during this time began to study
literature and write. His representative works include "Tanxiang Xing"
(Sandalwood Death), "Wa" (in English "Frog" 2009), "Fengru feitun" (1996, in
English "Big Breasts and Wide Hips" 2004), etc. In 2012, Mo Yan won Nobel Prize
in literature.
