From 1960s to 1970s, millions of young Chinese went to work in the countryside to receive re-education. Rural life had become a generation's memory. Those people form a special social group in China. Today, some of them have become well-known scholars, officials, and cultural celebrities.

Mo Yan

In 1976, he joined the People's Liberation Army and during this time began to study literature and write. His representative works include "Tanxiang Xing" (Sandalwood Death), "Wa" (in English "Frog" 2009), "Fengru feitun" (1996, in English "Big Breasts and Wide Hips" 2004), etc. In 2012, Mo Yan won Nobel Prize in literature.
