BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Experts and medical workers are working to prevent possible epidemics in a quake zone in northwest China's Gansu Province, the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) said Wednesday.

They have already completed a public health risk assessment and set up a basic laboratory, the commission said, adding that 15 experts have been sent to Minxian County, one of two counties hit hard by the quake.

A 6.6-magnitude quake jolted the border of Minxian and Zhangxian counties in the city of Dingxi at 7:45 a.m. Monday morning, killing 95 people and injuring over 1,000.

Over 60 experts from Gansu Province and 15 from the Lanzhou Military Area Command are joining in epidemic prevention efforts.

Medical staff have treated 1,200 people injured in the quake, as well as sterilized some areas and issued epidemic prevention pamphlets to local residents.
