Hamas security forces arrest group in Gaza for ignitingunrest( Xinhua) 19:18, September 06, 2013 The Gaza-ruling Hamas movement said Friday its security forces had arrested a group ofPalestinians who were planning to ignite unrest and instability in the coastal enclave.
Hamas' ministry of interior said in a statement on its website that the group confessed thatthey had cooperated with the intelligence services of Israel, the Palestinian NationalAuthority and some Arab countries to incite unrest.
"The arrested members confessed that they travelled to the West Bank and to Arabcountries, where one of the members was arrested by our security and he confessed thatthe group plans unrest in Gaza," said the statement.
Hamas violently seized control of the Gaza Strip in June 2007 and ousted the securityforces of secular President Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah Party.
Efforts to end division between the two rivals failed. On the contrary, tensions betweenthem mounted after the ouster of Egypt' s Islamist President Mohamed Morsi, whobelongs to the Muslim Brotherhood, the mother movement of Hamas.
Hamas redeployed its militants on the streets of the Gaza Strip on Friday after a group ofyouth from Gaza, calling themselves Tamarod (meaning rebels), called on the Gazan peopleto oppose Hamas.
The group, despite some on-line popularity, is still underground, while Hamas threatens torepress their call for massive protests on Nov. 11.
