A man was arrested and charged with having unnatural sex after he allegedly had sex with an injured cow, according to police reports in India.
Police in India said that the man used coconut oil as a lubricant to rape the cow.
Muthu, about 55-years-old, was detained for violating the animal that was lying injured near a railroad station in southern India. The incident took place in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Police official Jayavelu confirmed that Muthu, who goes by a single name, has been arrested under the unnatural sex crime act.
Muthu has confessed to the crime and is in police custody.
The gruesome rape was seen by representatives of Blue Cross of India, a non-governmental agency working for animal welfare.
The cow, four-years-old, was hit by a train and was lying unconscious.
Blue Cross of India officials received a complaint about a wounded animal and approached the scene.
Blue Cross of India volunteers were initially confused when they saw Muthu next to the cow.
"At first we were unsure of what the man was doing to the cow. When we went there and took a closer look, we realized that this man was having sex with the cow. He also had coconut oil, which he used as a lubricant," Blue Cross of India worker Dawn Williams said.
Williams said the assailant tried to flee the scene and was apprehended by volunteers.
The cow was sent for a medical examination and the veterinary hospital has confirmed that the animal was raped. The animal has died in a hospital due to injuries caused by the accident.
