More mainland higher education institutions exempt HKstudents from exams

Hong Kong Education Bureau welcomed Thursday the Ministry of Education of China'sannouncement of detailed arrangements on the admission scheme of Hong Kong studentsto mainland higher education institutions for 2014.
Seventy-five mainland higher education institutions will admit Hong Kong students basedon their results in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination.
Candidates sitting the HKDSE exam next year are eligible for enrollment in the schemeand will be exempted from taking the Joint Entrance Examination for Universities in themainland.
The bureau said the 75 institutions come from 14 provinces and municipalities, givingstudents more choice.
There will be more flexibility on minimum entrance requirements. For students nominatedby their schools under the School Principal Nomination Scheme, an alternative minimumentrance requirement of "3232", that is, attaining Level 3 for Chinese language andmathematics, and Level 2 for English language and liberal studies, would be available.
As for the enrollment procedure, Student Learning Profiles will be submitted by theapplicants directly at their convenience during online application.
The enrollment process will follow last year's practice and consists of both onlineapplication and subsequent on-site confirmation of application.
According to the admission procedure for 2014, students can apply online from Feb. 25 toMarch 20, and perform on-site confirmation and pay the enrollment fee at the ChinaEducation Exchange (HK) Centre from March 15 to 31.
