One of the advantages of living in a house as opposed to an apartment is that you can contribute to its design and make it suitable for your needs. Also, a house is usually bigger than an apartment. But it’s not always the case. For example, this contemporary house only occupies an area of 45 square meters which is relatively small, even for an apartment. The house was built in Campo Grande, Brazil. It was designed by architect Alex Nogueira and completed in 2013. Some of the requirements for this project included a simple design with clean lines and a unique twist.
The client didn’t want the house to look conventional but neither to be unpractical. In order to take advantage of the location and to create a close connection with the outdoors. The almost entire rear facade is occupied by a glass door and removable wall. This way the deck and the interior living area form a continuous space. The back yard has become part of the design and it features an interesting yellow sculpture made with leftover materials. The front facade is not as open as the rear part of the house. The house has a contrasting design in this sense. The front of house is closed and doesn’t even have windows. It’s a design chosen in order to offer privacy and solar protection. |
