如:under the table(在桌下)under the bed(在床下)under the tree(在树下)等。

under [in] the circumstances

under sb’s leadership

under one’s direction

under the care of……

under one’s control

He wore a vest under his jacket.

I was under the impression that he was honest, but infact he was a thief.

under discussion(在讨论中)under repair(在修缮中)under construction(在建设中)under consideration(在考虑中)等。

He got back his wallet with the help of the police.

Don’t read in the sun.

The cat likes to sit in the sun.

under the burning sun of midsummer

It’s the best wine under the sun.

He worked by the light of a candle.

understand v.

I can’t understand treating children like that.

误:I can’t understand to treat children like that.

I quite understand that you need a change.

正:I quite understand your needing a change.

I can’t understand why he robbed his friend.

正:I can’t understand his robbing his friend.

I understand him to be in Paris.

正:I understand that he is in Paris.

I understand him to say that he would come.

正:I understand him as saying that he would come.

AThey are going to get married.

B: I understand so. / So I understand.

I can’t make myself understood in English.

unless

You will fail unless you work hard.

Unless you go at once, you will be late.

I won’t go unless (I’m) invited.

Unless (you are) arriving by train, please let me know.

He will do it if he is not a fool.

正:He will do it unless he is a fool.

误:He will do it unless he is not a fool.

until, till prep. & conj.

We waited until [till] he came.

We didn’t leave until [till] he came.

I won’t leave until he comes back tomorrow.

He has been ill until recently.

She didn’t return until after twelve o’clock.

They didn’t reach the station until after the train had left.

Until when are you going to stay here?

4. 用于 not……until [till]……

They didn’t find her till the next day.

He didn’t wait until I returned.

Until [Before] you told me, I had no idea of it.

It is (was) not until [till]……that……

Not until [till]……. do (does, did)……

He didn’t come back till yesterday.

正:It was not till yesterday that he came back.

正:Not until yesterday did he come back.

be used to

I lived in the country for three years.

I used to live in the country for three years.

正:I always used [used always] to be afraid of dogs.

He usedn’t [didn’t use] to come.

You used to go there, usedn’t [didn’t] you?
