The heavy rain in Southern China has triggered flood and landslides, cutting off roads and communications, and causing major damage to local farms and houses. Jiangxi province has been one of the hardest hit areas in China's recent bout of torrential rains. In Nanfeng county, power supply facilities have been badly damaged, causing over 25,000 residents to lose power. River levels have also risen significantly, submerging farmland and houses across the province. Farmers recount fleeing the surging waters as they worked in the fields. "I was farming when water from the river suddenly inundated the field. I ran to higher ground. I was really scared." Yu Yong, villager from Lichuan County, said. Anhui province has also experienced waves of heavy rain. On Friday, weather authorities in Huangshan city issued a yellow alert for rainstorms, which have already led to a massive landslide. Falling rocks and trees have also blocked traffic. Meanwhile, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has also been waterlogged, after over a month of downpours. Over 80 percent of buildings in Quangzhou county have been damaged by the overflowing river. And in Zhaoping county, water at four reservoirs have exceeded safety levels. Though some reservoirs have begun draining, there are reports of widespread property and crop damage. Weather bureaus have also warned of potential landslides. Local emergency crews have been mobilized, and are working to restore transportation and communication lines, and evacuate residents threatened by the waters. Related News
