Specialists from SW China's Zigong Dinosaur Museum and China University of Geosciences have been conducting field surveys and studies in Sichuan Province. They have reached the conclusion that three types of dinosaur footprints from the Cretaceous Period still exist in Dashi Village, Xuyong County, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province. Specialists found many sauropoda dinosaur footprints in Dashi Village, including one trail of footprints of more than 10 meters. Sauropoda dinosaurs were the biggest land reptiles in the age of the dinosaurs. The biggest could be more than 30 meters long, with long necks and tails, and strong limbs supporting a barrel-shaped body. "Look! Here are bird-footed dinosaurs - they are rare in China," says Doctor Xing. In his excitement, he tells us: "They ate plants, and milled their food with a large number of teeth."It is very rare to find such well-preserved dinosaur footprints anywhere in China. They are invaluable to future surveys and studies. Many studies now suggest that the sauropoda dinosaurs did not disappear after the cretaceous period. Instead, they continued to evolve, and their descendants still survive today. The discovery of Sauropoda dinosaurs and bird-footed dinosaurs indicates the diversity of dinosaurs in Sichuan Province, which well deserves its title of "Cretaceous Park". |
