北师大版高中英语必修2 Unit 5 lesson 3： Adberbial Clauses (cause & result & purpose )
一、Adberbial Clauses of Cause 原因状语从句 连词有：because, since, as； now that, in that, seeing that, considering that； when等。 (一) because, since, as 1.表示不知道的原因时用because, 通常它被置于主句之后。 You want to know why I’m leaving? I’m leaving because I’m full. 2. for是并列连词。如果不是因果关系，而是对前面主句的内容加以解释或推断时，只能用for。 It’s morning now, for the birds are singing. 3. 表示已经知道的原因时用as或since, since要比as正式一些，它们通常被置于语句之前，但有时却相反。 Since /As the weather is so bad, we have to delay our journey. 4. 下列情况下只能使用because: ①在回答why的问句时； ---Why did you not come yesterday? ---Because I was ill. ②在用于强调句型时； It was because I was ill that I didn’t come yesterday. ③被not所否定时。(“not ... because”结构中的not否定的是because引导的整个从句) The country is not strong because it is large. 国强不在大。 (二) now that, in that, seeing that, considering that (这几个词汇与since引导的原因状语从句意思相近, 都表示“既然”。) Now that you are grown up, you should not rely on your parents. 既然你长大了，就不应该依靠你的父母了。 His request is unreasonable in that he knows we can't afford it. 他的要求是不合理的, 因为他知道我们负担不起。 Seeing that he was a hard worker, he achieved a lot. 他辛勤工作, 因而取得了不少成就。 Considering that it is handmade , the price seems reasonable . 考虑到它是手工织成的，价格还算合理。 (三) when既然 Why use wood when you can use plastic? 既然能用塑料, 为什么还要用木料?
二、Adberbial Clauses of Result 结果状语从句
连词有：so...that,
such ... that;
(一) so …that 1. so + adj / adv + that从句 She is so lovely that we all like her. 她是如此可爱，我们都喜欢她。 The boy ran so fast that I couldn’t catch him.男孩跑得如此快，我赶不上他。 2. so + adj + a(n) + n. +that从句 She is so lovely a girl that we all like her. 她是如此可爱的女孩，我们都喜欢她。 3. so + many / much / few / little + n+ that从句 There was so much work to do that everybody got bored.有这么多事情要做，每个人都感到厌烦了。 (二) such …that 1. such + a(n) + adj. + n. + that… It was such a fine day that nobody wanted to stay at home.天气这么好，没有人愿意呆在家里。 2. such + adj. + n. (pl.) + that… They are such good students that the teacher likes them.他们都是好学生，老师喜欢他们。 3. such + adj. + n.(U) + that… It was such fine weather yesterday that we went swimming.昨天天气很好，我们都去游泳了。
(三) so that结果, 以致 Everyone lent a hand, so that the work was finished ahead of time. 每个人都帮了忙, 所以工作提前完成了。
三、Adberbial Clauses of Purpose 目的状语从句
连接词：so that,
in order that;
(一) so that, in order that I spend more time learning English every day so that(= in order that) I can make greater progress this year. 为了今年取得更大进步，我每天用了更多的时间学英语。 (当从句与主句主语一致时, 可将从句变换为so as to, in order to 短语; in order that/in order to引导的从句可放在主句前) (二) in case万一, 以防 Keep the window closed in case it rains. 把窗户关好, 以防下雨。 Take warm clothes in case the weather is cold. 穿上暖和的衣服, 以防天冷。 Wait outside in case you can be useful. 在外面等, 也许你可以帮点忙。 (三) lest唯恐，以免；for fear that唯恐，害怕 (从句中须用“should+动词原形”，表虚拟语气) He spent whole days in his room, lest he (should) disturb anyone. 他整天呆在屋里，以免打扰别人。 He works hard for fear that he (should) fail. 他怕失败，因此工作很努力。 |
