1. 用于名词所有格
1) 用于无生命的东西：
the roof of the house 房子的屋顶
2)用于有比较长的修饰语：
a man of owning three houses, two cars and plenty of money 一个有3间房子、2辆车子和大把钱的男子
3)用于代词宾格之前
five of us 我们中的5个
none of them 在他们中一个也没有
all of you 你们所有人
4)用于单位词前
a cup of coffee 一杯咖啡
a bar of chocolate 一块巧克力
a piece of news 一则新闻
2. of 所有格 与 's所有格 并用，构成双重所有格
1)表示其中一部分
a picture of my brother's 我哥的一张照片
2)表示感情色彩
this lovely child of your sister's 你姐的可爱的孩子
3)双重所有格与普通所有格的区别
You are my friend. 你是我的朋友。 （强调友好）
You are a friend of mine. 你是我的一个朋友。（强调或暗指我的朋友不止一个）
3. of+名词 相当于 该名词的形容词
of importance = important
He is a man of importance = He is a important man 他是个重要人物。
of use = useful
This book is of use = This book is useful 这本书很有用。
of value = valuable
That is a ring of value = That is a valuable ring 那是一个有价值的（贵重的）戒指。
