A policeman was dragged to death by a BMW car while he was trying to persuade the driver to follow traffic regulations on a intersection of Minhang district, Shanghai. Traffic policeman Mao Shengquan was on duty in the afternoon of March 11. Around 5:26 pm according to the surveillance video, a red BMW car surpassed the stop line illegally at the intersection while trying to turn left. The car backed off into the stop zone after Mao went up and correct him. However, when the traffic light switched to green, the BMW car violated the regulations again. He didn’t follow the road signs to go straight ahead, but turned left from the through lane. Mao stepped up quickly again to hold him up. He said “Drive straight on, you came from the through lane, didn’t you? Don’t do this, other cars would follow,” according to the car’s driving recorder. Instead of following the correction, this time the car speeded up and turned left all of a sudden, dragging Mao, who tried to stop it holding its doors, along for over ten meters. The surveillance video shows he fell down with his head and back hit on the ground. The car drove on for another 100 meters before it stopped and the driver came out to turn himself to the police. 32-year-old Mao died from head injury after he was sent to the hospital. And in the next month, his wife was expected to give birth to their child. The driver, with the same age as Mao, is a native Shanghainese surnamed Sun. He owns an Internet company in Shanghai. Sun was detained for intentional assault. Investigation is underway.
