RBTA TO DESIGN SHANG XIAN FANG REDEVELOPMENT

Located in the Shanghai’s most prominent CBD, Shangxian Square is a typical residential shikumen neighborhood. As part of Shanghai’s cultural heritage, the architectural style of this high-density development combines Western and Chinese elements. But today, the existing dwellings are not longer compatible with modern living standards and the degradation of the urban environment is a crucial problem for the city. Shang Xian Fan development is intended as a key catalyst for the revitalization of the district.

尚贤坊坐落在上海最知名的CBD区，是一个典型的石库门里弄住宅。作为上海的文化遗产，这种高密度的建筑风格融合了东方和西方的元素。时至今日，对城市来说存在着一个至关重要的问题——现有的住宅已经不再能兼顾现代生活水平的提高和恶化的城市环境。尚贤坊的发展是振兴该地区的重要催化剂。

With a total site area of 8,800 m2, the scheme is divided in two parts. To the south of the plot, the development preserves four rows of residential buildings built in 1924 in the former French Concession, which is currently listed as part of the City Government “Old Town Reconstruction Project”. These houses, which play an important role in the city’s collective memory, will be carefully restored and re-positioned to house retail space. The program called for a mix-use landmark to be built on the north. Within a GFA of 70,000 m2, the 47-storey building combines a 6-star hotel (floors 11 to 20) and serviced apartments (floors 21 to 45), and underground parking facilities and retail area.

该处占地面积达8800平方米，计划把其分为两部分。南侧开发保留了四排1924年在前法租界建造的住宅楼，现在被市政府列为“旧城改造项目”。这些在整个城市的历史记忆中扮演了十分重要角色的房子会被小心翼翼地修复并且重新定位为零售空间。北侧的项目将被建设成混合功能的地标。其建筑面积可达70000平方米，这个47层的建筑物融合了六星级酒店（11-20层）、酒店式公寓（21-45层）、地下停车设施和零售区域。

The tower’s 9-storey solid base includes retail space (ground floor to floor 3) and hotel amenities (floors 4 to 9). The basement provides two additional floors of retail space and three floors of parking facilities. The building is split into two slender volumes at floor 34 that become slimmer as they rise, offering panoramic views of YanZhong City Park. As a dynamic addition to Shanghai’s skyline, the visually striking presence of the building is emphasized by its iconic tops, designed in a distinctive “modern-classical” style with elements of art deco reminiscence.

这座高楼的9层坚实基础包括零售空间（首层到3层）和酒店设备（4层到9层)。地下提供了两层额外的零售空间和三层停车设施。建筑物在34层被分为两个细长的部分，高耸的它们显得更为纤长，站在上面可以欣赏到延中公园的全景。作为上海的天际线，它引人注目的视觉效果在于其标志性的顶部，设计独特的“现代古典”风格融合了怀旧的艺术装饰。
