More than 2,800 girls and boys from Years 5 to 11 will participate in the NSW da Vinci Decathlon 2015 at Knox Grammar from 26 to 28 May. The Decathlon, which was created by Knox Grammar in 2005, celebrates the academic gifts of young people by providing a stimulating and challenging competitionrun in the spirit of an Olympic Decathlon. Students compete in teams of eight across 10 disciplines including engineering, mathematics, code breaking, art and poetry, science and English. What began as a small local competition, with public and private schools invited to the experience, has grown to be a national and global phenomenon, involvingmany thousands of students across Australia. The growth has been so enormous, and interest so high, that chapter schools in regional NSW, Western Australia, Victoria and Queensland now run individuallocal and state competitions, with a national final held in June each year at Knox Grammar School. Following the hugely successful inaugural international Decathlon in 2013, an International da Vinci Decathlon and ‘Race around the Renaissance’ willbe held in Italy, France and England in September and October 2015. Students from the United Kingdom and Australia will come together for the competition, and students from the United States, India and New Zealand will compete virtually.
