The Colombo South Container Terminal Project is a landmark project launched by China and Sri Lanka. It is the deepest container terminal in South Asia. In 2014, the Colombo South Container Terminal handled 680 thousand TEUs and raised the handling capacity of the Port of Colombo by 14 percent, creating the fastest growth rate among the world's container terminal in 2014.
