Siddha Medicine is the traditional system of Medicine having its origin from the southern peninsular region of India. The promoters of this system of medicine were called “Siddhars”. The literature evidence dates back more than 1000 years. Siddha medicine uses the knowledge, skills and practices based on theories, beliefs and experiences indigenous to its people and culture, for maintenance of health.
Varma in Siddha medicine
Siddha Medicine is classified as Internal Medicines (Aga Marundu 32) and External medicines (Pura marundu 32). In external medicines, thirty two different therapies were mentioned in the texts of Theraiyar siddhar and among them Varma(stimulation of vital points) is a special type of martial art formulated by Siddhars.
Varma and Indian culture
There are 10 important points in the body which should be stimulated daily to live ahealthy life. These points were called Varma points. Our ancestors knew the importance of these varma points and introduced the idea in the form of cultureand traditions, so that it is followed by everyone.
