经历过手绘插画的朋友一定听说过喷绘，对不起，那可不是现在大家说的用喷绘机喷绘牌匾的意思。因为它需要专门的气泵和高精密度的喷笔，这套设备一般是进口的，日本的喷笔和意大利的气泵是最好的！这套设备的高门槛将好多喜欢插画的朋友拒之门外，当然也包括刚刚毕业时的我！直到后来逐渐的打拼自己挣来了这套最好的设备，并用它们画出了一些当时还算满意的作品（看过刚刚创刊的《当代歌坛》的朋友应该还记得超级漫画栏目），可自从用上电脑和PS后，这套当时昂贵的设备被我束之高阁直到现在也没有再碰过了，今天看到了这篇文章才有想起了过往的日子....

This is a step by step tutorial. No digital medium has been use, no photoshop, no wacom tablet ...and I'm very proud of it. Much respect to the people who use them, in fact, I'm a fan of many of you kids...
...But this is real, old school art, made with the same old school elements : water, earth, wind and fire. I know I'm a dinosaur facing extinction...
STEP 0 : Let's Get This Party Started!
This was a very ambitious painting since the visualization of the concept. Bettie never pose with a guitar and a flaming bikini (as far as I know) so I had to gathering all the elements and create a "Frankenstein" with them. Plus the original picture with the pose was very poor so I did not have a good reference for anything ! . Most all the painting, lights, shadows etc. went out of my imagination. This painting was really hard to complete and it was full of accidents (the airbrush spit 3 times over the skin, etc.) .
STEP 1 : Draw the entire painting in detail using H,HB,B and 3B pencils. H for precise lines, HB for the soft tones, B for the dark tones, 3B for shadows.

The more detail that is drawn with the pencil, the better the end result. Make sure to apply fixative over the entire drawing when finished.
STEP 2 : Mask the area where you would like to apply the color with tape or frisket. Cut it with a sharp blade. STEP 3: Apply the color in light layers of ink so that the dark areas of pencil are still visible.

STEP 4: Cover the darker flesh tones over the base. Cover the darkest shades of pencil. The pencil is the key.
STEP 5: Remove the tape and begin to add detail using a fine paint brush.
STEP 6 : Just repeat the whole process with the other parts of the body. Keep the same tones. Complete one section at a time so you get more control of the tones.
STEP 7 : The face. Apply the big color areas with the airbrush.
The details of the face are to be painted with the fine brush.
STEP 8 : The hair. Begin airbrushing the the base of the hair using the lighttest shade first and then the darkest shade.
With a fine brush begin to add the detail of the hair, strand by strand.
STEP 9 : The shoes, bikini and guitar have the same Black-jet-Blue color .
Retouch the details with a fine brush and Black.
For the flames apply red first, let it dry, fix it with fixer and then apply the yellow over it.
