304, 000 students from Chinese mainland study in U.S. universities, a year-on-yeargrowth of 10.8 percent, according to a newly released report. China continues to be theprimary source of international students in U.S. universities.
The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and Institute of International Education ofthe U.S. jointly released a survey report on Nov. 16, which shows that in the 2014-2015academic year, a record-breaking 975,000 international students studied in U.S.universities. And the international students from Chinese mainland reached 304,000,accounting for 31.2 percent of the total and are 171,000 more than Indian students whosenumber ranks second.
According to the survey, among the students from Chinese mainland, the number ofundergraduate students for the first time exceeded the number of postgraduate students.And the statistics from the U.S. Commerce Department shows that in 2014, students fromChinese mainland spent 9.8 billion USD for their study in the U.S.
In terms of number of students studying in the U.S., the top three countries are China,India and South Korea; the total number of students from these three countries accountsfor 51 percent of the total international students in the U.S.
The survey shows that the U.S. is still a favorite destination for studying abroad. In 2014,international students brought about 30 billion USD to the country.
