How to Choose the Best Food Processor

Food processors are very useful appliances because they save your time and effort. A good processor can replace a lot of tools in your kitchen, but if you choose a wrong food processor, then it will not be of much use, and will simply occupy space.

Choosing a Food Processor

Your budget will obviously play a major role in your selection. You can get a decent food processor within $60-$100. Apart from your budget, you should consider the following factors:

Use of the Processor
Why do you need a food processor? This is the first question that you should ask yourself. If you need to knead dough, grate cheese, etc., then you will need a very powerful processor. If you are just going to use the processor for simple jobs like chopping, slicing, etc., then you just need a processor with average power. It will not make sense if you buy a very powerful food processor for very simple jobs.

Capacity of the Bowl
This is one of the most important features of a food processor. Do not have the perception that, it is always better to have a processor with maximum capacity! You will need more capacity only if you cook for a large number of people everyday. If you are looking for a processor for your restaurant, then you can go for one with a capacity of over 20 cups, but if you want one for your home, then a processor with a bowl having a capacity of 7 cups might suffice.

Size of the Feed Tube
Personally, I feel that a food processor should have a big feed tube. Why? The answer is very simple, it will save your time. How? You will not have to spend time in cutting the vegetables, fruits etc., into very small pieces. Using a food processor with a big feed tube is always more convenient than using one with a small feed tube.

Food Processor Size
You might buy one of the largest food processors in the market. It might be very expensive, and might have amazing features, but if it occupies too much space in your kitchen, it might end up becoming a cause of irritation! You should always go for a food processor that is compact. It should occupy minimum space, but do maximum jobs.

Speed Controls
Most of you might know that generally there are two levels of speed, one is On, and the other is Pulse. These 2 levels might be sufficient for your culinary activities. There are several models of food processors which offer additional levels (low, medium, etc.) of speed. If you want processors with more speed levels, then you will have to increase your budget.

Need for Attachments
If you know why you need a food processor, then you will not have a problem in choosing the attachments. Do you really need those extra shredding/slicing discs, or the mini bowls? Think twice before you buy attachments. You do not want to spend on anything that you may never use, right?

Essential Safety Features
Functional characteristics generally overshadow the safety features. People often ignore the safety, as they are so overwhelmed by the functionality of the food processor, and end up damaging their property or injuring themselves. Make sure that you choose a processor with essential safety features such as good locking mechanism, heavy chassis, etc.

In addition to the above, the food processor that you choose, should emit low noise when operating, and it should have a good warranty period. If you consider all the factors listed above, you will surely have the best food processor!
