1．否定词否定：not, no, never, neither;nothing; no one; none……
易混淆的点：
(1) 部分否定: 表示“全部”的代词（如all, every, both）或副词（entirely, altogether, completely等） 和否定词一起出现
(2) 全部否定：not a/any…; neither/none/nothing；never等
例如： Not all the ants go out for the food. 并非所有的蚂蚁都出外觅食。（not 和all）
Money is not everything. 金钱并非万能。（not和everything）
I can’t catch everything in the book. 我没有完全掌握书中的内容。
All that glitters is not gold. 闪光的未必都是金子。（all和not）
（注：无论否定词和all等代词孰先孰后，只要在同一句中，即可能是部分否定）
2．半否定词否定：hardly, seldom;little, few, scarcely, barely, rarely—几乎不、很少、不大可能。
需注意的要点：否定词在句首要采取部分倒装的结构。
例如：Hardly can they work out the prototype of the car within 4 months, can they?
他们几乎不大可能在4个月时间里就做出这辆车的原型，对吧？
He seldom asks for leave. 他很少请假。
It hardly ever snows in Guangdong. 广东极少下雪。
This test is so easy, I guess few students will fail.
这次考试这么简单，我猜测应该不会有学生挂科吧。
All the people alive haven't the talents like you have.
并非世界上所有的人都拥有和你一样的天赋。
3．否定的转移：not并不直接出现在要否定的词语。如not…but…等。
表达的习惯：切勿受中文影响“硬”译。
例如：You don't love him because of sex, but he is sexy because you love him.（=not because）
你不是因为性而爱她，而是因为你爱他而觉得他很性感。
I don’t think it is a good idea. 我觉得这不是个好主意。（= it is not a good idea）
Shut up. I didn’t come to listen to your stupid excuse.
我来这里不是听你愚蠢的借口。（=not to listen）
4．修辞式否定：last引起的特殊否定句式
例如：Jason is the last man to pass the exam as he's spent almost the whole semester working outside.
杰森是最不可能通过考试的人，因为他几乎整个学期都在外面打工。
Duke？To tell thetruth, he is the last one I will turnto.
杜克？说实话，我才不会找他帮忙呢。
5．排除式否定：利用介词without，except，but；regardlessof等否定，如all…but; anything but。
例如：All the people at the meeting agreed but Jack. 到会者中只有杰克不同意。
Don’t begin without asking for advice. 未征求意见之前不要开始.
