The spokespersons are major channels through which people get first-hand information of top legislative body. And their personal styles are also an interesting topic for discussion.
Fu Ying Fu, 63, is the first-ever female NPC spokesperson. She is a Mongolian ethnic minority from North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region. The former Chinese ambassador to the UK assumed her new role of NPC spokesperson in 2013. She often referred to her personal experiences when communicating with reporters. Last year, for instance, when talking about air quality issue, Fu said she bought a few protective masks for her family members.
Li Zhaoxing Li was once Chinese ambassador to the United States and China's top diplomat before serving as NPC spokesperson between 2009 and 2012. The 75-year-old was known for often citing China's constitution when answering reporters' questions. In his first NPC news conference in 2009, for example, Li quoted the constitution thrice.
Jiang Enzhu Born in 1938, Jiang was the fifth NPC spokesperson between 2004 and 2008. He once served as China's ambassador to the United Kingdom and China's deputy foreign minister. Jiang said he used to prepare for news conferences months ahead of the opening of the NPC. He often discussed possible tough questions with officials of various ministries and listened to advice of media organizations.
Zeng Jianhui Zeng was born in 1928 and once served as the vice-president of Xinhua News Agency. He was the spokesperson for the NPC from 1999 to 2003. During the period, Zeng presided over five news conferences of former premier Zhu Rongji.
Zhou Jue Zhou Jue, who is now 89 years old, became the third spokesperson for the NPC between 1993 and 1998. Zhou was also once China's ambassador to France and served as assistant minister of foreign affairs. He presided over five conferences of former premier Li Peng.

Yao Guang Yao was born in 1921 and was the spokesperson for NPC between 1989 and 1992. Like his predecessor, Yao used to be the vice-foreign minister of China and Chinese ambassador to France. Yao retired in 1998 and passed away five years later.ext Page
Zeng Tao Born in 1914, Zeng was the first ever spokesperson for the NPC, serving from 1983 to 1988. Zeng, once the president of Xinhua News Agency, was an experienced diplomat with stints as ambassador to Algeria, Yugoslavia and France. Zeng passed away on Feb 28, 1997. |
