Fast factsCourse type: Graduate entry Course overviewThe Bachelor of Nursing (Post-registration) is for candidates who are: currently registered in Australia and wish to upgrade their qualification to a nursing degree; or are overseas qualified registered/licensed nurses who would like to upgrade their qualifications to a nursing degree and become eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse (refer to Professional recognition/membership for further information). Students in this course are required to do professional experience placement (work experience) during their program of study. Certain statutory and other requirements must be met before any student is permitted to attend placement. Details of these requirements. Studies include nursing and research skills, the scientific basis of nursing, health psychology and health sociology, professional nursing studies and clinical experience in a various health care settings. Our aim is to prepare nurses who are reflective about practice and have well-developed clinical reasoning skills. What will I study?Refer to the course rule. Professional recognition/membershipGraduates with overseas nursing registration/license are eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse. Applicants who already have nursing registration in their home country, should have their current qualifications and work experience assessed by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia prior to applying to the University as they may be eligible for direct registration. Information on this can be obtained from the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Career opportunitiesWhat can I do with my Bachelor of Nursing degree? Entry requirementsDomestic students: Applicants must be eligible for registration with a nurses' registration authority in Australia or a country outside of Australia in which they originally registered. Additional requirements: Applicants must provide evidence of eligibility with a nurses' authority in the country in which they originally registered (ie practicing certificate). This must be sent to SATAC as soon as possible after submitting the SATAC application. From March 2011, all students enrolled in an approved nursing or midwifery program of study who are not currently registered, will be included in the national scheme. International students: Applicants must provide a current practicing certificate as evidence of eligibility for registration with a nurses' registration authority in country in which they originally registered. Applicants who are registered nurses in countries other than Australia must also hold an approved Diploma of Nursing (or equivalent) from an approved tertiary institution. Single registration Psychiatric and Mental Deficiency nurses may apply, but will not be able to gain Registered Nurse status with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a result of completing this course. Immunisation and Communicable Diseases: Requirements for Clinical Placements Under the terms of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (South Australia) Act 2010, as a nursing and midwifery student enrolled in a course that provides a qualification for registration you are required (as a condition of your enrolment at the University) to register as a student with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia for the duration of your nursing/midwifery studies. The registration process requires you to provide personal details to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia such as your health status and any criminal convictions. For more information on how to apply for student registration go to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia website. Please note that some requirements for registration as a nurse such as English Language proficiency are determined by Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia policy and are provided as a guide only i.e. accurate at the time of presentation and/or publication. Please note these policies may be subject to change during the period of a student’s study in a course and students are required to meet NMBA requirements in place at the time of application for registration as a Registered Nurse.
