每日英语：would与used to的相同与区别

would与used to之间既有相同之处又有区别之处：

一、would与used to的相同之处:

1. would与used to都可用来表示过去经常进行而现在不再进行的动作，常常可以互换。如：

When we were boys we used to / would go swimming every summer.

Frank used to / would spend every penny he earned on books．

The guys used to / would smoke and act “cool”.

My sister used to / would bite her fingernails whenever she was nervous.

2. would与used to都不能和表示动作发生的具体频度的词或表示一段具体时间的词连用。如：

I would / used to go toFrancesix times. (×)

My aunt used to live in Africa for twenty years.(×)

Last year, I would / used to study very hard, but this year, not so much. (×)

这三句应改成：

I have been to France six times．

My aunt has lived in Africa for twenty years.

Last year, I studied very hard, but this year, not so much.

二、would与used to的区别之处：

used to可用于表示过去的状态，would则不能。如：

I used to have a dog called Charlie.

She used to think it was all right to sit in the sun all day.

There didn’t use to / usedn’t to / used not to be a petrol station there. When was it built?

You used to like opera, didn’t you?
