[会议英语系列]会议相关的常见单词总结（一）

今天小编总结一下会议中常见的英语单词用法。

A. 有关出席会议

• absent: not present.

缺席会议。例句：

The vice president is absent due to unforeseen circumstances.

副总裁因为意外情况(unforseen circumstances)缺席了会议。

• mandatory: required.

强制参加的。例句：

It is mandatory that all supervisors attend Friday's meeting.

周五的会，所有总监必须参加。

• participant: person who attends and joins in on an event.

参加活动的人，与会者。注意解释里用的是词组join in，指参加XX活动，而不只是join（参加XX团体、派别）。例句：

Can I have a show of hands of all of those who were participants in last year's conference?

参加过去年会议的来个举手表决如何？

• chairperson/chair/president: the person who leads or presides at a meeting.

大会主席、会议主持人。例句：

As chair, it is my pleasure to introduce Mr. Tom Cruise to all of you.

作为会议主席，我荣幸地介绍汤姆克鲁斯先生给大家。

B. 有关会议形式

• brainstorm session/brainstorming: a meeting that gathering ideas.

头脑风暴会议。brainstorm也可以做动词，就是集思广益、头脑风暴的意思，例句：

Let's take a few minutes and brainstormsome ways that we can cut costs.

让我们头脑风暴几分钟，看看有什么方法能削减成本。

• conference call: telephone meeting between multiple people.

电话会议。例句：

Please make sure I have no interruptions while I'm on the conference call.

当我电话会议的时候，别打扰我。

• briefing: a meeting at which detailed information or instructions are given.

吹风会。例句：

He may have been leaving because the briefing was over.

他没准已经走了，因为吹风会结束了。

briefing其实更常见的是用作简报的意思，比如：

The president received a briefing on the situation before going to the press conference.

总统参加新闻发布会之前收到一份形势简报。

• pep rally: A meeting where the participants are stimulated to some activity, harder effort, etc.

动员会、打气会。例句：

To the extent the State of the Union has degenerated into a political pep rally , I'm not sure why we are there.

某种程度上年度国情咨文演讲已经降格为政治动员会了，我不知道我们为何到了这个地步。the State of the Union指的是美国总统每年都要做的一次国情报告。

• annual general meeting(AGM)：a meeting of the general membership of an organization.

年会，简称AGM。可以是股东大会（比如年年上新闻的巴菲特的哈撒韦股东大会），也可以是公司等各种团体的年会。例句：

We always vote for a new chairperson at the AGM.

年会上我们总是选个新主持人。

其他光怪陆离的会议还有：

• 汇报会 status meeting：领导引领的（leader-led），单向交流（one-way communication）为特点的汇报（reporting）会议。

• 工作会 work meeting：针对某个具体问题产生一个结果，比如做出一个决定的会议，多半是大型会议的某个组成部分。

• 员工会 staff meeting：员工代表参加、各方列席，讨论员工相关政策的会议。

• 碰头会 team meeting：项目组内，同事聚在一起开的会。

• 临时会议 ad-hoc meeting：为了一个专门的目的，临时决定开的会。

• 管理层会议 management meeting：经理们开的会。

• 董事会会议 board meeting：董事会（board of directors）成员开的会。

• 一对一会议（one-on-one meeting）：两个人开的会，比如直接上司和一个下属之间的恳谈会。

• 外出会议 off-site meeting：在度假地开的，夹杂培训和娱乐功能的会议。

• 项目启动会 kick-off meeting：项目组（project team）以及项目雇主（client）有关启动项目的会议，讨论分工等项目初始细节。

• 标前会 pre-bid meeting：指招标前与所有竞争者开的情况介绍会。

• 学术会议 academic conference

• 商务会议 business conference

• 研讨会 seminar/workshop：针对某个问题、某件事情聚在一起分享观点和方法的会议。

• 新闻发布会 news conference

• 和解会议 settlement conference：诉讼案件（lawsuit）中原被告（plaintiff and respondent）之间的和解会。

• 听证会 hearing：A session,as of an investigatory committee or a grand jury,at which testimony is taken from witnesses. 在调查团或者陪审团面前，各方陈述证词的会议。
