2016年5月26日，在哈佛毕业典礼上，来自中国湖南的生物系博士生毕业生何江作为代表发表演讲。哈佛校方确认他是第一位享此殊荣的中国大陆学生。当天，与他同台演讲的特邀嘉宾是著名导演史蒂芬·斯皮尔伯格。

精彩语录： Harvard dares us to dream big, to aspire to change the world. Here on this Commencement Day, we are probably thinking of grand destinations and big adventures that await us. As for me, I am also thinking of the farmers in my village. 哈佛让我们敢于拥有远大的梦想，勇于立志改变世界。在毕业典礼这样一个特别的日子，我们可能在畅想着那些等着我们去实现和挑战的伟大征程与冒险。但对我而言，此刻我还在想着我家乡的父老乡亲们。 My experience here reminds me how important it is for researchers to communicate our knowledge to those who need it. Because by using the science we already have, we could probably bring my village and thousands like it into the world you and I take for granted every day. And that’s an impact every one of us can make!
我的经历让我记住，一个研究者将所知传递给那些急需的人是多么重要。因为我们利用已有的科学知识，或许能帮助我的家乡，还有千千万万类似的村庄，让他们生活的世界变成你我每天理所当然的世界。而这样的影响力是我们中的任何一个人都可以制造的。 But the question is, will we make the effort or not?More than ever before, our society emphasizes science and innovation. But an equally important emphasis should be on distributing the knowledge we have to where it’s needed. 我们的社会比以往任何年代都更强调科学和创新。但同样需要被强调的一个重点是，把知识传授到那些真正需要的地方。 Changing the world doesn’t mean that everyone has to find the next big thing. It can be as simple as becoming better communicators, and finding more creative ways to pass on the knowledge we have to people like my mom and the farmers in their local community. Our society also needs to recognize that the equal distribution of knowledge is a pivotal step of human development, and work to bring this into reality.改变世界并不意味着每个人都要做出一个大突破。改变世界可以是简单的方式，比如成为一个更好的传播者，寻找更多创造性的方法将知识传递给像我妈妈和村里的农民这样的群体。我们的社会也需要认识到知识资源的平均分配，是人类社会发展的一个关键环节，需共同努力将其实现。
If your world is wide, you can create the future we all want. If your world is narrow, you may create the future the pessimists fear.如果你的世界是宽广的，那你就能创造出我们都想要的未来。如果你的世界是狭隘的，那你可能创造出悲观者恐惧的未来。 If we can find approaches that meet the needs of the poor in ways that generate profits for business and votes for politicians, we will have found a sustainable way to reduce inequity in the world. This task is open-ended. It can never be finished. But a conscious effort to answer this challenge will change the world.如果我们能够找到这样一种方法，既可以帮到穷人，又可以为商人带来利润，为政治家带来选票，那么我们就找到了一种减少世界性不平等的可持续的发展道路。这个任务是无限的。它不可能被完全完成，但是任何自觉地解决这个问题的尝试，都将会改变这个世界。
You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing the dots would connect down the road would give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well-worn path, and that would make all the difference.你必须要相信某些东西：你的勇气、目的、生命、因缘......因为相信你生命中的点滴将在日后相连，将会给你听从自己心灵的信心，即使这样做会使你离开熟悉的道路。这将使一切大不相同。 You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers.需要去找到你所爱的东西。对于工作是如此, 对于你的爱人也是如此。 Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. The idea that great progress is possible, whatever line of work you choose. There will always be cynics and critics on the sidelines tearing people down, and just as harmful are those people with good intentions who make no contribution at all. In his letter from the Birmingham jail, Dr. King wrote that our society needed to repent, not merely for the hateful words of the bad people, but for the appalling silence of the good people.记住，发展是永无止境的，不论你们将来选择做哪行。在这个世界上总免不了受到无知看客们的挖苦和嘲讽。同这些人一样，那些虽然心怀善意，但却从未对社会做过任何贡献的人也可能对社会有害。在《伯明翰监狱的来信》中，马丁路德金博士写道，我们这一代人终将感到悔恨，不仅仅因为坏人的可憎言行，更因为好人的可怕沉默。 The sidelines are not where you want to live your life. No matter what you do next, the world needs your energy. Your passion. Your impatience with progress. Don't shrink from risk. And tune out those critics and cynics. History rarely yields to one person, but think, and never forget, what happens when it does. That can be you. That should be you. So given a Time Turner, I would tell my 21-year-old self that personal happiness lies in knowing that life is not a check-list of acquisition or achievement. 如果给我一部时光机，我会告诉21岁的自己，一个人的幸福在于懂得，人生不是拥有一份漂亮的成绩单。 You will never truly know yourself, or the strength of your relationships, until both have been tested by adversity. My friends from school are still very close, We have nursed each other through headaches and danced at each others’ weddings, we’ve held each other at funnerals and rocked each other’s new babies. We worked together on projects, helped each other get jobs and thrown parties for when we’ve quit bad ones.And now our children are creating a second generation of friendship as we look at them toddling together. Haggard and disheveled working parents that we are.Grab the good people around you and don’t let them go. Tricking us into remevbering a sunny yard full of laughing frisbee throwers after 8months of dark freezing library dwelling. It was like the school has managed to turn on the good weather as the last memory we should keep in mind that would make us want to come back.But as I get farther away from my years here, I know that the power of this school is much deeper than weather control. It changed the very question that I was asking, to quot one of my favorite thinkers Abraham Joshua Heschel: To be or not to be is not the question, the vital question is how to be and how not to be.记忆中，我常常对剑桥镇的春天感到不满。它总骗我们记住充满阳光和欢笑，飞盘到处飞的场景，可别忘了，那是在8个月黑暗冰冷的图书馆苦读过后。学校似乎总是能够控制天气，让我们最后记住的都是好天气，老是想着回来看看。但是，当我离开校园，渐行渐远以后，我知道，这所学校的力量远不止控制天气那么简单。它给了我所求问题的答案：借用一句我最喜欢的思想家亚伯拉罕约书亚的话：生存和死亡并不是个问题，问题是如何生和如何死。
“今天很残酷，明天更残酷，后天很美好，但是绝大部分人死在明天晚上”。这就是残酷的生活。所以你今天必须很努力，才能面对明天的残酷，明天你必须很努力，才有可能看到后天的太阳，但是绝大部分人看不到太阳的。你光努力还不够，还有运气，运气从哪里来？运气就是把自己好的时候多想想别人，自己不好的时候多检查检查自己，我相信会走过来。
所有昨天不好的事情都是你的机会，别人在抱怨的时候才是你看到机会所在。阿里有一样东西也是我想给大家分享的，我们花30年走到今天，不是3年，我们明白一个道理，什么是战略，就是做未来最重要的事情，坚持理想，坚持正能量，坚持乐观，坚持脚踏实地。我们从来就没有做成过一件事情，今天想做明天成功的事，或者今年做明年成功的事情，因为这样的机会永远轮不到我。今天你们最大的资本是年轻，因为年轻你可以花十年时间打败阿里巴巴，打败淘宝，如果你有这个想法，也许只要五年，如果你希望明年就打败，你可能一辈子都打败不了。
不管你是即将迈入职场，还是刚刚进入大学，脚下的路都会有平坦和坎坷，但是也正因为如此，有所收获之后，奋斗的过程才更值得我们驻足回味。
