Sprite does nothing to actually reduce acetaldehyde, the underlying cause. The only product known to reduce acetaldehyde and actually PREVENT hangovers is Alcotox. I never drink without it. My 2 cents.

I did read the 'study', Here are the problems;
1) Speeding up enzyme activity and reducing acetaldehyde are not the same thing. One is speeding up and the other is reducing . Even accepting the stated premise, why have they not disclosed by how much the process was speeded up by ? Is it 1%, 5%, 100% ?. A 1% result would be statistically significant but practically meaningless.
2) What ratio of sprite was used relative to the alcoholic beverage and how strong was the alcohol ?. We know that acetaldehyde varies considerably amongst different beverage; beer contains the least, liquors and spirits contain the most. A gallon of sprite on a thimble full of beer would produce an entirely different result than a thimble full of sprite on a gallon of 40% proof spirits.
I therefore dismiss this as a 'study', it comes across more of a PR gimmick, likely funded by Coca Cola to boost sales of their soft drinks, knowing full well the gullibility of an uncritical and unthinking public.

就凭以上两点我就决定放弃这个“研究”了,它只不过是个公关噱头。可能是可口可乐公司资助的这个研究专案用来提升其旗下的软饮料销售,他们知道,一小部分不明真相的群眾会不加批判、不假思索的就相信了这个胡扯。

being that Sprite is one of the few soft drinks to contain sugar instead of saccharine or aspartame this is most likely due to the simple rehydration effect it is providing to the body.
& that it delivers it more quickly to the body since it is carbonated.

Actually, you are completely wrong. I suggest people go read the study before they make comments like these. They did not do these tests in vivo with subjective human measures...they used biochemical assays to determine which of 57 different drinks would increase ALDH activity. Sprite is the only one that worked.

They should have tried beer. That is clearly the best cure for a hangover. Tried sprite this morning. Didn't work. I don't think our sprite is the same as in China. My friend lives there and confirm it's completely different and doesn't have as many sweeteners and more sugar.

Aspartame is made from combining phenylalanine, aspartic acid and methanol. In the stomach aspartame is broken into these constituent components.
Phenylalanine is metabolised like any other amino acid, as is aspartic acid.
The methanol reacts with the acid in your stomach to produce formaldehyde, which in principal is poisonous. In practice, however, when you look at the concentrations involved you'll find that there is way more methanol in a glass of wine, than there is in an artificially sweetened drink.
Net result: Aspartame is not poisonous unless you drink about 200 liters of diet coke per day.

Aspartame isn't a toxin unless you have an inherited metabolic disease called phenylketonuria, which prevents your body from breaking down the amino acid phenylalanine, causing it to accumulate until it has dangerous effects. Phenylalanine is actually an essential nutrient for protein production, and is a component of all protein, but phenylketonuriacs need to keep their intake to the essential minimum. This is why products containing aspartame carry a warning that aspartame contains phenylalanine.
The idea that aspartame is toxic for the vast majority is an urban myth. (And no, I am not an employee of NutraSweet).

Naturally occuring Phenylalanine is always bound to other counterbalancing amino acids.
'Isolated' phenylalanine found in artificial sweeteners has no counterbalancing amino acids, and is readily absorbed by the brain causing an excess of free radicals which over stimulate brain cells. That, by definition makes aspartame a neurotoxin.

A natural source of Phenylalanine? Milk, cheese, whatever. We HAVE to absorb phenylalanine! It is an essential amino acid, we can't produce it, but we HAVE to have it in order to break it down and make products like tyrosine, dopamine, etc. Whats more, Phenylalanine actually blocks gluatmatergic signalling (NMDA and AMPA), this does the exact opposite of what you're claiming- it decrease excitability, it doesn't increase it. Quit reading your pop-sci, blog-o-crap junk and do some research if you really want to tout about this stuff.

Isolated Phenylalanine? Seriously, guy? WE ARE A SOURCE! What do you think happens when a protein enters the stomach? Protein (several folded amino-acids comined together) gets denatured (unfolded), once it is denatured, the chain is hydrolized (cut up) into the separate amino-acids. These amino-acids are then circulated and used as needed. And phenylalanie, like any amino-acid, doesn't just 'absorb' across the blood-brain barrier. They are actively transported by transporters. Phenylalanine is actively transported by the same transporter as Tyrosine. Once in the brain, Phenylalanine is converted to Tryosine by the enzyme Phenylalanine hydroxylase. The only time that phenylalanine is detrimental to your health is if you have PKU, where your phenylalanine hydroxylase enzyme does not function. This leads to toxic build ups of Phe.
