This new free pattern is the sister pattern to the one I released last week: Mathilde. And just like that pattern, this one was designed in honor of Genevieve Jurgensen's two young girls who passed away in 1980. I highly recommend taking a look at her memoir, The Disappearance: A Primer of Loss. It is an unexpectedly good read about sorrow and life.

• SLST = slip stitch
• SK = skip
• CH = chain
• SC = single crochet
• DC = double crochet
• TC = triple crochet
• CSDC = chainless starting double crochet
• FP = front post
• BP = back post
• BLO = back loop only
• Picot = CH 3, SLST in third CH from hook

Pattern Notes

• Join all rounds with a SLST to the first stitch of the round, unless otherwise indicated.
• If a round begins with a "CSDC" you may choose to work a CH 2 instead.
• I recommend crocheting over your starting thread as you work the beginning rounds.

Round 1 = CH 1, 16 SC into the circle. Join. [16 SC]

Round 2 = CSDC, DC in same stitch, *2 DC in next stitch* around. Join. Mark 3rd DC of this round. [32 DC]

Round 3 = CH 1, SC in same stitch, CH 5, sk 3 stitches, *SC in next stitch, CH 5, sk 3 stitches* around. Join. [8 SC, 8 spaces]

Round 4 = (SLST, CH 1, 2 SC) in first space, FPTC around marked DC of round 2, 2 SC in same space, *2 SC in next space, sk 3 DC in round 2, FPTC around next DC, 2 SC in same space* around. Join. [32 SC, 8 FPTC]

Round 5 = CSDC, DC in next stitch, 2 DC in next FPTC, DC in each of the next 2 stitches, *DC in each of the next 2 stiches, 2 DC in next FPTC, DC in each of the next 2 stitches* around. Join. [48 DC]

Round 11 = This round is worked behind round 10 into round 9. CH 1, BP-SLST around DC directly below from round 9, CSDC, CH 3, (BPDC around next DC, CH 3) five times, sk FPDC, *(BPDC around next DC, CH 3) six times, sk FPDC* around. Join. [48 BPDC, 48 spaces]

Round 12 = SLST into first space, CSDC, 2 DC in same space, 3 DC in each of the next four spaces, CH 2, SC in next space, CH 2, *3 DC in each of the next five spaces, CH 2, SC in next space, CH2* around. Join. [120 DC, 8 SC, 16 spaces]
