学诚法师：命运是存在的，如是因感如是果；命运也是能改变的，改变因就能改变果。但要改变命运，需要正确地认识和运用因果法则，若错种了豆的种子，无论怎么坚持也是不能长出瓜来的。 Q: Master, should we believe in destiny? With perseverance, will our dreams come true? A: Destiny does exist; certain karmic causes result in certain karmic effects, but destiny can also be changed if we can change the karmic cause. To change one’s destiny, however, one must understand and apply the karmic law correctly. Sometimes I don't believe it as I think where there is a will, there is a way. Yet having experienced much in life, I suddenly feel that maybe one's destiny is truly pre-determined. If this is the case, how do we face our destiny? A: Thoughts determine one's actions, and actions determine one's destiny. Without changing our inner thoughts and outer behaviors, we won't be able to change our destiny. Conversely, we will. 学诚法师：佛教不否定算命，但若只能算命不能改命，则毫无意义。依照佛法去行持，可以改造命运，这才是值得努力的方向。 Q: Master, what is your opinion of fortune-telling and horoscopes? Buddhism does not hold these things to be creditable, does it? They are more like things leading to the three lower realms and what we should avoid, right? A: Buddhism is not against fortune-telling. However, fortune-telling is meaningless if it tells but does not change one's destiny. Through practicing the Buddha's teachings, one can change one's destiny.
