Then a quick dry without dryer sheets to get the water repellent finish back up to snuff. I know you can use rubbing alcohol to at least partially remove acrylic paint stains but I have no idea if that would be a good idea on your jacket material. I suspect yet, but that's a gamble. I am not sure how harsher cleaners would react to the outer fabric.I use nikwax soap and water proofer for my goretex. A lot of outdoor stores will sell a number of brands of soap for cleaning and re-waterproofing your jacket. Just run your washer a few times without anything in it to get rid or the other detergents then run your goretex products through with the nikwax or what ever brand you decide on and tumble dry low. 5 years, 5 months ago

I'll tell you what, there's a product out there called Goof-Off, which contains a chemical called xylene, that I have used extensively in cleaning fabrics with stains that won't come out with the usual soap treatment. Buy yourself a can of Goof-Off and test a little bit of it on an inconspicuous part of your jacket just to ensure it won't fade the color. Then, get you and your jacket outdoors (to avoid the product's quite potent vapors) and get a hard surface against which you can lay the part of the jacket with the stain. Affix whatever surface you have so that it's on the underside of the fabric beneath the stain, lying flatly. Dab a bit of Goof-Off onto a terrycloth wash cloth or rag, then scrub the paint off of your jacket. The Goof-Off will remove the Durable Water Repellent from where you're scrubbing, so I'd say wash the jacket, alone, with at least two capfulls of Nikwax wash-in water repellent in order to restore it. We suggest the use of cleaners designed specifically for Gore-Tex and Softshells, such as Granger’s Performance Wash. If the garment is no longer shedding water as it used to, even after it's been washed and dried, it's time to reapply the DWR. We recommend using Grangers? XT Proofer spray because the technologies complement the garment's original DWR treatment. After washing close all zippers, hang the wet garment on a hanger and spray Grangers? XT Proofer evenly onto the wet face fabric of the garment. Next, place the garment in a tumble drier on a medium heat setting (40°C) for 40 to 50 minutes. We do NOT recommend using a wash-in DWR as it does not always apply evenly. Unfortunately, most products strong enough to remove acrylic paint also have the potential to damage your Gore-Tex jacket. However, for possible stain removal alternatives please contact our Warranty Department: 1-888-326-9900 5 years, 7 months ago

If you're using it to ski/snowboard or high output activities then consider a fleece such as the Konseal, Stratos, or Lorum, the hood configurations will depend on preference or compatibility with the jacket. through personal preference I have found the hoodless variants work better with high collar Drophoods. If you're choosing to use it for urban commuting then pair up with an Atom LT. The Beta line tends to not offer as generous a cut as the Alpha or Theta so fitting in an Atom SV would restrict your movement with the added 40 g/m squared. Personally I would consider using the Atom LT Hoody since in an urban environment warmth in key and a shell hood only keeps the rain/snow out. 3 years, 7 months ago

Although the hood configuration differs, the Atom LT Hoody has a Scuba Hood that is lower volume than the Drop Hood of the Beta AR Jacket allowing the hoods to nest together comfortably. The lower volume of the Scuba Hood prevents it from being helmet compatible, but it will fit underneath a helmet.5 years, 3 months ago

The Fall 2013 Beta AR Jacket is entirely made from Gore-tex Pro Fabric, both the N40r-X and the N80p-X fabrics. Just because it does not specify Pro on the Arm, does not mean that the material is not Pro. The easiest way to tell if a fabric is the new Gore-tex Pro is by checking the back of the fabric. The Pro fabric will have a grid backer that was installed by Gore-tex to visually show the new fabric. There is no technical enhancement to this grid backer as it is purely for identification as the older Pro-shell standard Gore-tex fabrics have a solid grid-less backer. I tried on a S arcteryx Beta AR, and while the jacket did fit, I felt it to be rather roomy and the sleeves too long. I can't find a shop anywhere that stocks the XS, but have found it online. I'm tempted to go for the XS.
Does anyone have an XS that can share their dimensions with me? I have lean build with a bit of muscle on my frame (no gut). 3 years, 2 months ago

Ive also tried on the Alpha SV in XS and loved the fit, I wish Arc would make more XS sizes. For other Arc pieces like fleece, base layer, soft shells, I wear S (typically because its smallest size available), and depending on the piece, tend to fit - the trim fit pieces like incense, konseal, fortrez, Atom LT fit very well but many times I find the length a tad too long. My only complaint about the Beta AR XS is that its a bit (about an inch) to short, as the above layers like Atom LT in S are longer. I found the Alpha SV XS a better length for layering. The XS fit me perfectly! The S fit sort of like a garbage bag. In the XS, I still had full range of movement, while the waist and chest area were much snugger than the S, but still enough to layer quite a bit. The length of the sleeves were just a tad long, which I actually prefer. Overall, extremely happy with the fit of the XS on my 5'6' frame. Activity: snowboarding, climbing 3 years, 2 months ago

Like the op's question, I have almost the same physical measurement and I have both Beta AR and Alpha SV jackets in size small, they feel a tad roomier on the body and long on the arms, they fit good when layering, but in Spring and mid Fall I might not need all those layers. The issue is local stores don't carry XS size for try-on, and returning an item to a web-based store would cost time & money for both ends. Any help appreciated.Age: 55-64 Activity: Some snow sports, hiking, trekking, around town. 3 years, 2 months ago
