SESSION 201(首译)
OCTOBER 25, 1965 9 PM MONDAY AS SCHEDULED
(I planned no envelope test for this evenings session, thinking itsplace could be taken by the third and final Gallagher clairvoyanttest.
(Jane has now settled all matters pertaining to her ESP book withher pub?lisher. In the 198th session, Seth said she would receive aletter from her publisher by the next Saturday. Jane did receive aletter then from his secretary, but not a defini?tive one. It isthus interesting to note that she received the information shewanted by the next Saturday, however; October 22, Friday, to beexact. We have yet to receive any word on our kitchen enlargement, which Seth also predicted would be settled
by the Saturday after the 198th session.
(There follows a copy of my dream of Thursday night, October 21, astaken from my dream notebook: “I dreamed briefly that the first ofthe two short stories Jane has sold has now been published—The BigFreeze, I believe—and that as a result Jane can now get paid forit.” I hoped Seth would comment on the dream.
(Saturday, October 23, Jane learned that her short story, The BigFreeze, was on the stands, in Dude Magazine. She had not beennotified by the magazine that it would be. She is also to be paidon publication, rather than acceptance of the material. Themagazine had appeared on the stands Friday, October 22.
(In the 200th session, Seth said Jane's publisher, Frederick Fell, would be hurt by Jane's demands for action, but would cover it witha cosmopolitan air. In his letter of October 22, the publishercertainly did write a cosmopolitan letter, in our opinion.
(The session was held in our back room and was free ofinterruptions. Jane spoke while sitting down and with her eyesclosed. Her voice was quiet, her pace quite slow in thebeginning.)
Good evening.
(“Good evening, Seth.”)
Your dream was an excellent example, Joseph, of a clairvoyant one,in which definite new information was received. The information wasspecific, and you retained most of the identifying data.
You were given the precise title of the dream content; that is, youknew the particular story was called The Big Freeze. It is truethat you forgot that the title itself was a part of the dream, yetyou did remember enough so that you were sure of the particularstory. You knew it was the first, rather than the second.
There was also a rather humorous translation here. When youawakened you felt chilly; although you could not remember havingbeen given the title, The Big Freeze, this information wastranslated into bodily sensation. You were consciously concernedover financial matters. You were wondering when any additionalfunds would be received, and this gave impetus to your abilities. You asked a question and received an answer.
The sensation of cold was a clue to the title of the story, but oneyou would not have recognized on a conscious level. There is noreason for you to worry about financial matters. You are hardly inany difficulties here, nor will there be any.
(Oddly enough, I remember waking up chilly in the morning lastweek, but do not know whether this followed the dream. I made noconscious connection with the dream in any case, and it seems to meI might have woken up chilly on more than one night last weekalso.)
Ruburt did well in regenerating his energies these past few days. The outlet was excellent for him, and in this case incidentally theenergy was far from lost, though it was used. You were both wise inyour decision to make some purchases for your apartment. Theobjects were bought in high spirits, with money well earned, andthey will retain to some rather strong degree the psychicexuberance which has become part of them, and will therefore add tothe overall constructive climate of your dwelling.
I am speaking again of quite practical connections here, for asenergy forms matter, matter and energy are inseparable and objectsobtain their character from their owners, and from thecircumstances surrounding them.
(We think this passage helps explain some of the results Jane hasbeen obtaining in her envelope tests.)
I wanted to make a note here, that the tape recorder should workvery well as Ruburt plans to use it in connection with collectingdream data.
I have used a portion of this session to deal with rather personalmatters, and of course we discussed particular dreams at sessionsimmediately previous. This is fine, but we will shortly return toour material.
I will now suggest a brief break before we deal with our friends. And incidentally, Ruburt’s experience in psychological time wasquite legitimate.
(Break at 9:19. Jane was dissociated as usual for a first delivery. Her eyes had remained closed, and her voice quiet; her pace hadpicked up considerably as she spoke along.
(Jane knew which psy-time experience Seth referred to. Id made thequick diagram following her directions. From her psy-timenotebook:
(Friday, October 22, 11 AM-12 Noon. I was doing so well when thealarm rang at 11:30 that I set it for another half hour beyond myusual time.
(None of what I saw was very clear. I felt I stood on a long narrowporch or verandah with a railing. On either a double-story motel,or a motel of one story that was raised up higher than usual. Ilooked over and down at a pool, and felt that beyond this eitherthe ocean or a large body of water was visible. Doors opened offthe long narrow porch which extended full length, and I wonderedwhether Bill and Peggy Gallagher were staying here. I thought theirroom might have the door near the center of the porch. I had animpression of Peg sitting by the pool, with Bill in it.
(I kept telling them I was standing nearby, just in case they couldsee anything of me. I still knew I was lying on the bed however, while I tried to project myself to their location.
(After I reset the alarm I tried to wander to the other side of themotel to find a name sign. Instead I watched a man from above andbehind; dressed in suit, hat, carrying a bag or briefcase. Hecrossed a blacktop expanse of some kind by a large bulky building.Bill?
(As to sensations: First I achieved a partial projection of somekind, and thought I might complete it but didn’t. Strong thrillingsensations, feelings of being swept away. Odd movements of somesort. I could feel the blanket over me and my pillow at neck movein odd fashion as if my physical body was making unaccustomedmovements, but thought I was motionless. Very strong momentaryfeelings of being swept away, though these are poor words todescribe this. Extreme lightness, weight?lessness.
(Once thought I saw mountains, as though floating. Then feeling ofchange of direction, more straight upward, yet still retained bedself. Once I was aware that I was looking up at treetops against agray sky. When alarm rang second time some lightness remained. Idid exercises, lightness vanished as soon as I turned thoughts todaily matters. End of account.
(It was now time for Jane to attempt to tune in on Bill and PeggyGallagher for the last time while they were on vacation. We werenot sure but thought they might be on the way home from Puerto Ricoby now. Jane began speaking with her eyes closed. Her pace onceagain became quite slow, with many pauses; although she would givea paragraph of material rather quickly at times between pauses.Resume while sitting down at 9:29.)
Ruburt did indeed pick up some material for his own writing today, and the complete break from his normal activities was verybeneficial.
Now, give us a moment.
An airplane. Directly behind our friends (pause), there is a femalein blue. Directly across from our friends, there is a couple ofmiddle-aged.... (Pause, at 9:30; Jane shook her head in vexation.)We will try to clear this up. The couple come from Daytona orDayton. The man has a connection with the paper business, but not anewspaper. The production of paper itself.
(Both Jane and I have been to Daytona Beach, Florida, but neitherof us has ever been to Dayton, Ohio.)
Arrive New York eleven, perhaps 11:05. (Jane shook her head.) Thereis something, a gate or a runway with the number 3, 5; 35, possiblythe number on their luggage ticket. But one of these is a 35.(Pause.) The woman directly behind our friends’ seat may have achild with her. If so a female child, but there is no man in thatseat. (Long pause.)
They walk through a large building, most likely a terminal, forthere are counters of a sort to the right. Our friend’s ulcer mayshow a slight twinge here, as he passes through the terminal. Thereis a short discussion concerning where to go next. (Pause at9:40.)
Some place during their journeys they met a white-haired gentleman.I believe the name begins and ends with an A. His age about 62,perhaps older. (Long pause.)
The interest was of a business rather than a social one, inconnection with this man.
At this time, that is now (9:44), our cat lover is reading. OurJesuit is studying people, and they are flying.
A dress or coat of many buttons. A small boy several seats ahead.(Long pause, at least one minute.) I suggest your break.
(Break at 9:48. Jane was dissociated as usual. Her eyes hadremained closed, her voice quiet. Many of her pauses toward the endof the delivery had been long.
(Jane said she had a very vague impression of what she took to bethe interior of an airplane while she was speaking. She could notdescribe it in so many words, and had no idea if she was correct tobegin with, since she has never been inside an airplane. Sheappeared to have no memory of pictures of airplane interiors.
(I was busy writing down the above paragraph when I realized Janehad fallen silent. To my surprise I saw that she was leaning backin her chair with her eyes closed once more. She resumed in a veryquiet voice at 9:51.)
Also a cab ride. Our cat lover laughs. A three-dollar fare, whichseems large. An old, rather than a younger cab driver (pause) witha stubby neck.
A direction that is mainly to the right, after one turn. (Pause.) Aroom on the fifth floor or higher, but not lower. They eat a mealhere also. I pick up some connection with the word M—
(M?)
Elm, and this building. You had better break.
(Break at 9:57. Jane was dissociated as usual. She said she 'knewSeth was going to do that, ” that he had some more to say.
(Jane said her attitude has changed quite a bit by now, in that shelets “anything through now, at least to a degree.” Otherwise wewouldn’t be learning anything about distortions, she said. Janeadded that when Seth mentioned the right turn, or direction, shehad a very definite inner sensation of turning to the right, aftertraveling in a straight line.
((Once again Jane's pace was slow when she began speaking again. She sat with her eyes dosed, her hands to her face. Her voice wasquiet. Resume at 10:06, with the 11th Dr. Instream test.)
Give us a moment.
A cloth, like a handkerchief, laid upon the table, and a candle.Red I believe. (Pause.)
He concentrates, and he is thinking of a number, perhaps a zero. Hesits at a straight-backed chair. I have the impression of a tallpiece of furniture near him. (Pause.) Extremely tall, as anupright, rectangular shape, and it is dark. I believe it is behindhim.
The room does not seem to be well lighted, for this piece offurniture is in shadow. The table is a round one, with otherstraight-backed chairs nearby. Some also in shadow. (Pause.)
The backs of the chairs are of an open type that is not completelysolid or filled in. Perhaps glass doors (long pause; at least oneminute), but an expanse of glass.
An identification by number. He wears something checked, smallchecks, but of a darkish rather than light, or bright, overallcolor. He makes a fist. (Pause.) Now I think of two candles, andthe piece of cloth is white, the cloth on the table.
An M, S. (Pause.) A disagreement today between Dr. Instream and aman with a mustache, over money and a policy, having to do with howfunds should be used. Some connection with a fortification (pause)or government training program of military nature.
A dispersal. Two coins on the table. 1930. One of the coins isdated 1930.
I suggest your break. Do you have a test for me?
(“No.”)
I thought I would be polite and ask.
(“We 're taking it easy on you tonight.”
(Break at 10:24. Jane reported that she had been very welldissociated during the delivery. She sat quite still while givingthe material in a quiet voice, with her hands to her face the wholetime, and used many pauses.
(Jane resumed in the same quiet manner, but at a little fasterpace, at 10:32.)
We will now bring our session to its close.
Ruburt will have some additional short-story sales in the nearfuture, partly as a result of this story. At least one before thepublication of the other story that has already been sold.
There will be word concerning the sister of Ruburts mother. Not ofa fortunate nature.
My heartiest regards to you all. You embark upon a most productiveseason, that will be important for you both. I anticipate it foryou with affectionate regard. Approximately four days from now, Ibelieve your Dr. Instream will receive an important letter, forwhich he has been waiting, and that he will receive confirmationconcerning his own hypnosis experiments.
Possibly in New York your other friends eat turkey. It is better toeat turkey than crow.
(“Good night, Seth.”
(End at 10:41. Jane was dissociated as usual. Her eyes remainedclosed, her voice quiet. She remembered most of what she hadsaid.
(In the 104th session, Seth said that Jane would sell some of theshort stories from the group she was working on at the time of thesession. The two sales, includ?ing the one just published, are fromthis group; in addition Jane missed out on other sales from thegroup because various publishers wrote her that although they likedher material, they already had similar ideas in inventory. Jane hasnow begun work on another group of short stories. Enough timelapses between her short-story work so that it is easy to keep thegroups separate. See Volume 3.
(Jane's aunt, mentioned by Seth, lives in New York City. Jane hasnot seen her for some years, but keeps in touch via the aunt'ssister, Jane's mother.)
