“ Educational in Finland ”

Good afternoon, everybody.

Last month, I read a ‘’Kompas’’ newspaper to gain some information about what’s going on today. At the headline news, there’s something important which was explained in the newspaper about education. I think education is always as a benchmark of a nation. The nation can apply the best education system to residents who wanted to study. For instance: Finland. Finland is a country whose education systems have consistently been at the top for the Europe rankings. It could be an example to other countries to apply some education systems better. Today, I’d like to talk to you about 3 things that underlie the success of education systems in Finland. First, Finnish children don’t start school until they’re 7 years old. Second, there wasn’t a national exam. And last, the Finnish government subsidize all the teachers in Finland to obtain a higher degree.

Firstly, Finnish children are not allowed to school before they’re 7 years old. This is because prior to that age the Finnish children have driven for having playtime, make their own creativity, and mingle with peers. In addition, it is also to ensure that children are ready to receive instruction and accustomed to find their own way of learning that is the most effective for them. So, they will have a great desire for study.

Secondly, Finnish children have one mandatory standard test that will be taken when the children aged 16 years old. The national exam isn’t required. The government believes that the teacher is the one who the most understand the curriculum and give the best assessment to their students. The high-quality teaching which owned by the teachers enable the government hand over their responsibility directly to them in creating the curriculum and evaluating the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process.

Thirdly, all the teachers in Finland must have a master's degree which is fully financed by the government and have a thesis that has been published. Indeed, the Finnish government understand the teachers who are the most influential in improving the quality of education. Therefore, Finland invested heavily to improve the quality of teaching staff. Not only the quality, the Finnish government also ensure there are enough teachers for optimal learning.

To sum up, the 3 things that I’ve mentioned just now were as a benchmark of a nation in applying to the best education system. Those things could imitate by other countries, especially in Indonesia. Finland can just apply their best education system to every resident who lived in Finland. What about Indonesia ? the government of Indonesia must change their education system and could apply the best education system that appropriate with this country. Such as ; In Indonesia, Indonesian children should be able to read and write when they’re entering an elementary school. That’s a great idea. But, before that time, the children would probably have no more time to play and didn’t develop their creativity. It is against the educational system in Finland. It’s one thing that distinguish education system between Finland and Indonesia. If the educational system in Indonesia changes, it will be a guidance to Indonesia to find another way of learning. Thank you very much.
