" If I ask you, “Hey, dude, are you responsible to yourself?” I believe at least 99% people will think this is a weird question. But, are you sure?
Firstly, have you ever thought about what you really want? You, as the best friend of yourself, should know what you want and should give yourself a reason to live in the way that you are living. If you do not care, who else will? Perhaps your parents will, but the only one who understands you is yourself. You cannot rely on someone else. This is not a joke. I saw many sad cases in this world. My friend Jack finished his Ph.D. in a very advanced area and later on found that he was not interested in the research at all. Of course he could start over again, but what about the time paid, what about the youth hood that had almost gone forever? When I heard his story, I could not help asking him, “Why?……” Here is his answer: “When I was a kid, my parents just wanted me to be the best in the class, they decided everything for me and I did not need to worry about the future. When I was in the middle school, my science subjects were the best in the class, my teacher chose the major for me when I entered the university. When I was in the university, the top students were all working hard trying to get admitted by the good graduate schools, I did the same thing. Since I had been in the graduate schools, I chose to continue my study until I got my Ph.D. simply because the reputation our society gives to those people who get their Ph.D.. Now it is time for me to figure out what I really want to be, I know that answer now but I cannot start over again because I do not have the guts to.L” Do you want to be another Jack? If your answer is NO, then it is time for you to figure our what you really want for your life.
Secondly, before you blame others, check yourself first. I bet many people here would like to blame your bosses once you start the conversation of career. I agree that the bosses are not quite nice most of the time. But have you ever put your feet in his shoes? Yes, he does not want you to contact the client, but can you make a perfect communication with the client that he really cares about? What if you scare the client away? You might say, “Come on, if I do not get the chance, I can never learn!” That is damn right. But are you reliable? Will you stay here after you get trained and learned enough here? I agree with you that a good boss should be wise enough and give you chance to develop yourself, but do not forget that most of the bosses are as common as you are, they do not want to train a person they do not trust yet. They do not even think it is their responsibility to train you and give you the chance before you show the solid evidence that you can handle it. What can you do? Stop blame your boss and do your homework first. Polish your English if it is not good enough. Grasp any chance that you can increase your experience. Convince your boss with any detail during the completion of the task he gives you. If you have done everything and you do not think that there is any chance that you can learn new stuffs here. You still have the last choice: leave here and find another place. Start it over and do the same thing! Some people are lucky; they can learn everything after they land their first job. Most of the people are not. This is a long, tedious process. But remember, life is a long run. Who, that sticks to the last, will laugh at last. " |
