四、课文摘要The pilot circled the balloon, where there was a basket containing three men, one of whom was holding a pair of binoculars. Before landing near an airfield, it flew over the station and one of them took photographs. As two of them were Members of Parliament and the other was the Commanding Officer, the police could not arrest anyone. The mystery was explained when the Commanding Officer said that one half of the station did not know what the other half was doing.
五、语用文化英国皇家空军 英国皇家空军（Royal Air Force，简称RAF）是英国的空军分支，亦是世界上历史最悠久的独立空军，负责英国防空和其它国际防务义务的武装机构。英国皇家空军起源于1911年，当时成立了皇家工兵航空营，该营有个气球连和飞机连。第一次世界大战中英国空军海军联队和空军联队分离，但1918年它们合并为英国皇家空军。英国皇家空军在1918年4月1日成立。1920年在林肯郡的克兰威尔建立了一所皇家空军军官学校。1922年一所皇家空军参谋学校在罕布郡的安德福成立。第二次世界大战爆发后，皇家空军的前线力量约有2,000架飞机。2015年02月12日，英国首支F-35战机中队正式成立，接受美国培训。
六、学习建议1、注意be able to和manage to有时意思差不多，都可以表示最后成功做成了某事。如： 句中的was able to就表示好不容易做成某事，可以替换为managed to。
