印章装饰艺术的新境界（一） New Realm of the Decorative Art of Seals (Part one) 明清印章在整体美化上具有新的形式创造。印章装饰由印钮延伸到印体，是石章时代艺术装饰观念质的突破。 During the Ming and Qing new forms were created in the process of beautifying seals, extending the area of decoration from the knob to the seal body. In the age of stone seals, this represented a qualitative breakthrough in the decorative concepts of the art. 浮雕螭纹，象牙，明张瑞图款“白毫庵主”，上海博物馆 Ivory seal, knob relief-carved with a chi pattern, by Zhang ruitu. Ming Dynasty. Shanghai Museum 博古纹样的装饰，表现的是一种淡雅含蓄的趣味。商周青铜器上常见的云纹、回纹、夔纹、兽面纹等都被引入印章的装饰形式之中。雕刻技法上则相应地采用浅浮雕或者线刻，线条流畅繁密。 Ancient incised patterns ex-pressed a simple but elegant and reserved taste. The cloud pattern, fret pattern, da1·dragon pattern and beast-face pattern were all used as decorative motifs for seals. Qing Dynasty. Shanghai Museum 清代早期以不改变印形、不损及印体为原则的浅浮雕或线刻纹样开始流行，随形赋饰，或取其天然巧色，或避其瑕疵，使素朴的印石呈现富丽而不张扬的色彩感和层次感。此种装饰形式不仅需要深厚的刀法功力，更离不开灵活巧妙的艺术构思。 In the early Qing, it started to become common to carve bas-relief or line engraved patterns onto the seal body. The principles followed were: taking care not to change the seal form or harm the seal body; carving decorations according to the shape; making use of the natural color features; avoiding the flaws. In this way, the simple seal stones would offer a sense of color and of depth, of beauty without ostentation.
